The structural steel is now going up for the Champlain Street Plaza phase two.

Also, the exterior cladding is going on the standalone building on the external pad site in the parking lot of this development. This building will house the new drive-thru Pita Pit location.

There are now four active construction sites on Aviation Avenue, only one of which has a sign on it saying what is being built there (the new Subaru dealership). Two of these are only in the land clearing phase.

Judging from previous discussions though, it's safe to say that two of them will be Acura and VW/Audi. The last one might be the CE3 electronics manufacturing plant.

St. Hubert in Dieppe

I was speaking to a fairly reliable source, and was advised that St Hubert restaurant is looking to set up shop, between the utramar/second cup and the NB liquor in the proposed new development there on Dieppe Blvd. guess we will see.....

Two things:

1)- The walls are now up for the new Familiprix at the corner of Chartersville and Amireault.

2)- I don't think they're actually building the entire Champlain Plaza (phase 2) at this time. The amount of structural steel seems kind of truncated given the site plan, and in particular I don't think the extreme eastern end of the plaza is being built at present. I could be wrong on this, but that's my impression. Thoughts???

Yes, I think it was mentioned on here that the larger unit on the east side will only be built next year. They must still be looking for a tenant.

I've just noticed that a new Indian restaurant has opened in Dieppe. It's in a re-purposed house on St-Laurent street. Maharaja's

More info from Cobalt's website :

Cobalt is marketing for lease its 60,000 square foot development at Dieppe Blvd. and Champlain St. in Dieppe, a city in the greater Moncton area in New Brunswick. The project is already 50 percent pre-leased and possession is anticipated as early as Spring 2015. Units starting at about 1,000 square feet and as large as 20,000 square foot are available. Drive-thru units are available. The site offers strong visibility and being within five minutes from the Greater Moncton International Airport and the close proximity to office, retail and residential neighborhoods, it experiences a high volume of passing traffic. The immediate area includes hotels, grocery stores, banks, restaurants and fitness centres and directly across the street is an office building with approximately 1200 employees. According to the city's statistics, Dieppe is the fastest growing city in the province and also registers the second highest median household income in Atlantic Canada. Phone Sue Baxter at (506) 202-7245 for more information.

The old Kent location at 40 Champlain St. is under construction and is so far going to have an Easy Financial, Pita Pit and a Mary Browns Chicken.

A co-worker of mine was just in Halifax and visited a store called Sports Fanatic. An employee said they were soon opening a location near Champlain Place.

Any word on who the Anchor is? I was thinking staples but haven't heard anything official.

The entire Champlain Plaza (phase 2) is not being constructed at once. In particular, the 20,000 sq ft anchor on the east side of the development is currently deferred.

What we do know is that the plaza will include:
- Pita Pit (with a drive thru - this is a certainty, metro's 3rd location)
- Mary Brown's Chicken (according to micks5477, this would be metro's 2nd, possibly in the same pad location as Pita Pit)
- Easy Financial (according to micks5477)
- Possibly Sports Fanatic (according to David_99)

Sports Fanatic

Sounds like a clone of D&M Sports at the Hastings Ridge plaza.

Can someone please explain to me why we should be excited with additional stores of the same stores we already have elsewhere in the Greater Moncton area? And these tenants are underwhelming to say the least. What's the point? Sports Fanatic is the only interesting tenant in this new Dieppe plaza.

The choice to be excited or not is entirely yours.

I was actually disappointed with Sports Fanatic, because he couldn't remember the name, but by the way he was talking, I thought it was the Pro Hockey Life at Dartmouth Crossing. He said "No, it's the one in the mall next to the pretzel place."

There's been so much strip mall construction in the past few years that most new developments are likely to be in part additional locations of retailers already present elsewhere in the metro area.

Guys... I'll be the first to admit that I find retail news pretty dull as well, but I'm a planning nut so I can't judge people on their boring interests . If you don't find a topic of discussion interesting just don't bother to participate in it. That said, let's all try to keep the discussions in the topic right thread (broad as they are).

I'm not bothered by OUIR@random's comments, and he does have a point, but not all retailers can be as fashionable and interesting as Victoria's Secret. I'm a bit of a planning nut like Myles, and even the most humdrum of news can be of some interest to some people. I also like ferreting out rumours.

As to whether this is the appropriate thread to discuss this, I think it probably is. To me, the retail thread is more for discussing happenings at Champlain Place or up on the big box district on Trinity, Plaza and Mapleton. The Champlain Plaza to me is more of a neighbourhood development and thus is appropriately discussed in the Dieppe thread. There of course can be some overlap between the threads, but that's OK.
