Wow, Desigual, really? Thats a first for Ottawa no?

^ I was/am curious about this myself. I just went to their website to see where they have stores/outlets, and they have exactly zero stores in Canada.

So this would make it not only a first for Ottawa, but also Canada, which seems a bit unusual. Is the OP certain about what he/she saw? Maybe it's some other store touting itself as point-of-sale for Desigual items?

In fact, digging deeper it appears they only have a dozen or so stores in the entire USA (NYC, LA, SF, MIA).

Fairly certain... I was a bit surprised myself since I've seen their clothing at the Bay in Toronto (Queen Street location) and no one really goes in that section. I can't find any further information on it...

* Via Instragram, there seems to be a location already in Montreal (as of 5 months ago):

** There are some job postings for said Montreal store here as well (under the "country" drop-down, Canada is 2nd from the bottom of the list).

I just got back from the mall today and saw Desigual on one of the yet to be opened new retail spaces, so yes, they are opening a location there.

A very nice score for Ottawa/Bayshore indeed.

Never heard of these brands but if they bring jobs and $ to the area then more power to them!

So, what's the difference between a Desigual 'store' and an 'authorized dealer'?

I checked out the mall today at lunch with a colleague and the expansion is quite nice! Food court is now on the 2nd floor with way more spaces and more outlets as well.

I think the Mall has positioned itself quite well with many well-known brands under 1 roof. With the Tanger Outlet opening in couple of months, shoppers will have a wide variety of choices for Xmas shopping!

One is owned by the company (or maybe a franchise) the other is a company that has permission to sell the product. In this case the company with the licence (which seems to be somebody called 11th floor apparel) is putting the emphasis on one brand (apple authorized dealers often do this). Desigual has no Canadian stores.

I think the Hugo Boss store that used to be in the Rideau Centre had a similar model (the store was Harry Rosen but they branded it as Boss).

I saw a BitCoin ATM today for the first time! It is located near the lottery kiosk of the International News on the first floor. 1 BitCoin = $634 CAD when I was there. Pretty neat.

My wife was pretty impressed with the expansion and will probably come back again soon Now if they can fix the 2nd floor parking fiasco, we'd be all set!

Speaking of parking, I find the new parking garage is absolutely terrible. If they want to discourage shoppers driving to the mall, I think they may succeed. The spots are very narrow and there are so many concrete walls and pillars that almost every spot has one next to it, which makes opening your car door an adventure in itself. Bad, bad, bad.

Was at Bayshore this afternoon and shot some (grainy) pics on my phone. Parking garage was a zoo -- lots of folks circling on ground floor seemingly without finding the up ramps.

Parking garage.

Waiting for Target.

Food court, waiting on another couple tenants to open.

3rd Floor entrance to the Bay, sans yellow logo.

The Face Shop.

I was there on Friday, circling the ground level, and I never saw the up ramps. Not a good sign.

The ramps are right in the middle. I find it easier to go in on the 3rd floor and leave from the 3rd floor - to/from the highway. That way you can avoid the ramps. The top floor is a bit loopy as well, the down ramp is at the far end, so there is always a line to get down. Not the best design, I wonder if it will be better when they open the other half of the parkade.

Well I definitely think Rideau Centre has won big time on the Ottawa Mall Renovation Challenge.

I have not been to Rideau Centre lately but have heard really good reviews, especially about the food court. Planning to check it out soon.

For Bayshore parking, I usually take Woodridge and park on the 1st floor near the Bay or inside towards the Mall entrance near HomeSense. Not as many spots as they used to have (due to construction) but less traffic and I avoid the convoluted parkade design on the 2nd/3rd floor. Will see what happens when everything is done but for now, this works for me.
