Was driving along the 417 yesterday and snapped this pic of the Hunt Club overpass. Sorry for the bad quality 1) my windshield is filthy, 2) i didn't hold the camera steady as I was focused on driving

This one is really coming along. All the earth placement is completely done (although not soded yet), and the 417 westbound -> Hunt Club ramp is completely paved. Definitely on track for August opening, if not possibly sooner.

Going to be really interesting to see how this interchange and the Stranherd-Armstrong Bridge change traffic patterns in the city.

My thoughts:

This overpass will add a lot of counterpeak traffic to the 417. Lots of people from Orleans, the centre, and the west will be using the new Hunt Club exit to commute to places along Hunt Club, commutes which would be counterpeak. It will probably add with-peak traffic too as people from the Southgate area use this exit to get to the west end. It will likely remove a huge amount of traffic off Walkley, especially around the Russell/Walkley interchange, which should improve the speed & reliability of bus service in that area.

It may also change shopping patterns for people form the rural southeast. Currently a lot of those people shop in Orleans. The new Hunt Club exit may tip the balance in favour of South Keys for a lot of these people.

The last few days they have started to grade and pave the ramps, which requires off-peak lane closures on the 417. Concrete guard rails are nearly complete on the main span, guard rails for the smaller spans are still being worked on. Foundations for signage and lighting have been poured.

^ The ramps are already graded, though... and half of them are already paved. Unless you're talking about the segments immediately adjacent to Highway 417, of which there's still some paving necessary to connect them to the highway lanes.

Main overpass structure is now completely finished. This one's going to open soon.

It's a race between this exit & the Strandherd-Armstrong bridge to be open first. Which one will win?

Both projects will be a big help to east-west travel in the south of the city.

The Strandherd Armstrong bridge will be open first.

The completion date for the interchange is Fall 2014 on the signs, and as I've been seeing the progress of the construction on my daily commute, they are in no hurry to finish it. Although the big structures are nearly complete, there still is a lot to do. Lighting, guard rails, signage, concrete finishing, grading, paving. The EB Hunt Club to WB 417 ramp isn't even graded yet under the main span where it passes over the creek. I could see the EB417 to WB HC ramp opening before the others, which would provide some much needed relief to Walkley.

I believe it will be open before fall (the City's web site now says August). Also, there is pressure from the City (i.e. Councillor Deans) to complete the Hunt Club Noise Wall project from Hawthorne to Albion before they open the interchange.

One would think it would be desirable to have the Hunt Club interchange on 417 available during the rapid bridge replacements at Vanier/Riverside and at Lees this fall.

Drove by the site today. Getting closer to opening now! The vertical supports for overhead signage have been installed on the 417 WB. They were doing the final paving on the 417EB off ramp this afternoon which was causing traffic headaches. Some roadside signs have been erected on the ramps and it's signed as exit 109.

The last bit of EB Hunt Club to WB 417 ramp isn't even paved yet.

109? Really? But it's at kilometre 108... The 108 marker is right at the overpass....
