Was shopping in Park Royal North the other day, it just seems so dead, dark and dated. While the CityMarket is a great addition, I still feel the future will continue to see the north side turned inside-out. I can't see many retailers wishing to locate inside on the north side with all the new 'wow' retail on the south side's Main St. extension and new retail areas near Simon's.

Might there be a long term strategy for the PR North lands that we're not privy to? I note that almost all of PR North is on freehold land, whereas PR South is on leasehold land. No idea if that has any bearing on things.

A more expensive solution might see them building underground out front and then cover that with retail. Again, probably not financially doable.

The big factor would be what HBC has planned for their store. Saks Fifth?

I would not be surprised if the Bay decided to plunk a saks in there but there is the question of proximity to the downtown location.

Anyone think they may try to pull a brentwood/oakridge style development on the north side? Because it is freehold it will be a lot easier sell for condos etc. They could also consider putting in a hotel and potentially make it like a bellevue square (or bellevue collection), the only thing is that there really isn't any offices or business in that area to merit such a development but a mixed use tower may work.

I really like what they are doing over there, Vancouver needs more shopping like that.

Not a chance. WV freaked out about eight stories in Ambleside recently and almost didn't allow it. Reducing it to seven storeys was the almost unbearable compromise. Tall buildings are much more likely on the reserve/south side. Don't forget Jim Pattison and his ilk live to the north of Park Royal.

it's interesting that this is coming here. I don't know if it's particularly well suited to vancouver but i'm sure it will appeal to certain buyers.

An Armani Casa store would have been better suited IMO.

Seems a bit of an error on R-I's part but good info though. I can see it being very suited to the middle-eastern communities in Coal Harbour and the North Shore, as a Realtor who's seen a many of their homes, it seems to fit their sense of style well.

Inform has been a fixture in gastown for over 50 years (i think they have to own the buildings they occupy)! I like to refer to all the old school scandinavian furniture business' in Vancouver as the danish furniture mafia

I think scandinavian style fits very well with the west coast aesthetic but I always get a good chuckle at the stores out there now that bill themselves as scandinavian but don't have a single piece in there that is truly scandinavian but hey you have to cater to your customer base

I am very interested in what they will do with that space. It was quite cheap so I doubt they will need to sell more than a few pieces a month to turn a profit. It really doesn't fit with the neighbours however. I do wonder if it's a franchise/license operation or corporate owned.

Thank you for the update. We got our info off Versace Home's website. Shame they haven't included the other locations - we can only report on what we find, as our original source for the article was Versace's local business partner.
