Yeah ! That's what I've been dreaming of many times
Can you imagine how far Montréal skyline would have been visible !? (232m + 205m) !!

Our towers in Québec city are high, but not so much. But being on a 100m hill makes a huge difference actually !

Montréal : Towers base = +/- 10m + 205m (highest tower) = +/- 215m
Québec city : towers base = +/- 100m + 134m (highest tower) = +/-234m

Roughly has the same ''visibility'' as Montreal's, but not the same impact, because it's far less massive.

But anyway, in Québec city & area, our elevations are very different. Everything, except the area around Galeries de la capitale & Autoroute de la Capitale (A40), peaks at least at 100 meters : Upper-town Québec, Lévis, île d'Orléans and Western, northern & eastern suburbs.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Had some incredible comments from friends & familly who have been there.

Unfortunately, the front range in North Vancouver is many km aways.
A same comparison with Montréal would have been a Stanley park built on a 200meters hill wich is not.

I often wonder what the city would be like if that had happen. Of course, having the hill as a large park is nothing to be sad about though.

On the other hand, Westmount is build on the hill and it's a very nice labyrinth of twisting streets going up and down. Very few visitors venture there though since it's only residential.

Too bad. They miss Summit circle belvedere ! It's one wicked vantage point !

Portland, Oregon is similar with Mt. Washington (I think) park adjacent to downtown.
Montreal is a much larger city though.
I love these natural park areas in the middle of urban areas (Stanley, Mt. Royal, etc.).

Halifax would have almost the exact same situation as Vancouver with a large downtown park taking up the end of the peninsula.

Hamilton can give the illusion sometimes.

Closest thing we have to Mount Royal in Vancouver is Q.E. park. It's further out, but still a pretty good view of the city at 127 meters.

The North Shore mountains are a whole different category. They are further out, but they also top out at 1400 meters. They have a pretty dramatic impact on the city.

Closest thing to Stanley Park and Mont-Royal is Gatineau park. It's not Downtown, but a short drive away.

Calgary has nosehill, and then all the mountains to the west.

Edmonton is pretty unique in the way it sits on top of the river valley...

^ Hey J.Ottawa..great shots!...We've been in Gatineau park years back and actually seen that angle that you had posted. You can really see all of downtown from there.I Wish I had a camera with a zoom lens at that time. Ottawa is tough to get...I wish the city was flat if for just a day to get some decent pictures.ha..Again nice pics.

The height and quality drops off dramatically once you leave the CBD and head north. It's always been a monotonous sea of non-descript unremarkable buildings. Four Seasons was the first attempt to rectify that. It's nothing ground breaking, but a vast jump from what existed before. AURA might lack in quality, but it definitely gives the area much needed height and acts as an anchor. It looks dynamite in that frame. One Bloor will add both height and quality. 3-4 more buildings like this or taller and it will start coming together.

Something near Wellesley like Pearl (Melbourne), but 400-450m would do wonders. It would counter balance the CN Tower, give the area a much needed dose of sophistication, and help kick start the northern end of the core.

For me the CBD is superior hands down, both in terms of height and quality. Nothing much north of Queen really stands out whereas the CBD has TD Centre, Scotia Plaza, First Canadian Place, RBC Plaza, Canada Trust Tower, L Tower and Commerce Court North. It's got a great mix of materials, colours and styles that span multiple decades.

Toronto needs a lot more 200 meter towers, north of college. Even those 200 meter-near towers like Wellesley/Park, YC Condos, U Condos, 1 Yorkville and One Bloor will do a lot to fill in the gaps between the financial and commercial core and Yorkville.

Thankfully, they are coming, with the load of city approvals granted this past week.

That's how I see it as well. My hope is that we eventually get buildings of the quality and height of the bank towers all over the core. It's a big mismatch presently.
