Who was this special audience that got to see it?

And here is a first-hand account of the event (where Gillespie revealed renderings of this "mind-blowing" mystery tower) by a forum member who attended:

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=5978745&postcount=8

Of course, this was before the creation of the new West End Community Plan, which has vastly increased the allowable height for this site (now 60 storeys). One can only assume the building has since been reworked to take advantage of the substantial increase in allowable height.

Or perhaps the original design was done knowing that the westend plan would allow additional density and height and the building was designed to be even taller then what the plan eventually approved now allows, so the new revised building is shorter then the one originally shown...

Not. I was poking fun at the line "gasps of awe and excitement". Being residential, it will almost certainly be 60 stories. I presume that means 600 feet.

Can't find an address for Stan Douglas. Anybody know where this is?

The building will be at 150 East Cordova.

I think it's a great addition to the area.

There is also another building proposed for 41 East Hastings showcased on the site:

Thanks for that. My favorite area to watch redevelop.

First Baptist Church site falls under area E in the WECP, so 550' max.

Haha, adding to the mystery and hype - I love it!

This tower would seriously impact my views, but I would love to see a 60-storey tower go up right next door.

I realize you are joking. But for everyone else's sake, the eye-witness of the renderings described the original design (which he considered to be "mind-blowing" and "iconic") as having only 30-something floors.

This site is right across the alley from the YMCA tower. I thought there were rules about spacing between towers.

The guideline is supposedly 80 feet. So, it will be interesting to see how the mystery tower and the guideline can be reconciled, since Patina can't be more than 40 feet or so away.

I thought the 80 ft separation guideline was just for Downtown South? (or did it just originate there?)

I can't go into any more details for obvious reasons, expect more news around the end of the year.

The frivolous turns important, but the crucial goes unaddressed. In life not everything is justifiable, can be answered or serves good logic.

The useless rubber bricks around the trees at the Cambie & Broadway 99 BLine stop are finally history. Along with the 'Caution - uneven sidewalk' signs on the trees that were only there to prevent lawsuits.

The sidewalk on Broadway & Cambie that was built as part of the new development a few years ago has been sloooooowly getting replaced with new construction that won't settle & cause the bricks and tiles to shift and pop up.
