This tree-hugger attitude is really doing little more than depriving the city of a bit of extra dynamism, and the numbers I quoted - while ballpark, of course - are not really excessive.
Or are they?
It could also be that towers closest to the edges of downtown maybe shouldn't be the tallest? Viewcones aside, doesn't it make sense to have shorter towers along the edge and then tier up to taller towers in the centre of the DT peninsula to maximize views for people living within downtown?

Thank you for that feedback. It makes a lot of common sense to me.

End up with 10 story buildings?

Over the weekend I saw a mini-blimp - the kind used to take condo display centre "views" pics - hovering at the First Baptist site (Burrard west of Electra). I only noticed it when it was at the roof level of Electra, and it descended after that - so I'm not sure how high it went before that.

Cool. I wonder when that was, since I was home most of the weekend and I overlook that exact area. Didn't notice anything and there wasn't any notice to us nearby residents.

Sounds exciting, nonetheless! Almost "The Ultimate Vancouver Rumour Thread" level stuff.

This would be for the Gillespie mystery tower that produced "gasps of awe and excitement" when renderings were shown to an audience in San Francisco about 18 months ago.

The new West End Community Plan allows for 60 storeys on that site.

From Changing City;
Here’s another development proposal for a narrow site in the Downtown Eastside. Christopher Bozyk Architects has designed this 9-storey 60 unit project for a fifty feet wide lot next door to Stan Douglas’s artists studio
