With the removal of the bus loop, the new elevator is necessary - otherwise you'd have a situation like previously at Scott Road, where the only elevator was too far away to be accessible.

Case in point... Gilmore station. Built to be portable and integrated into an office building (London Life or something?) and it still has its "temporary" roof. This is all despite being surrounded by new developments and condos galore.

Has anyone got renders of what the Brentwood area will look like after the south side is all built?

the SkyTrain has an awful history with future integration.

-Stadium has the Beatty Street West entrance which was abandoned because the Amec Building wasn't designed to link to it.

-Main Street famously had a massive proposal to integrate into a complex where the Concorde towers are now but that never happened and VanCity went so far as to completely build around the station.

-There's Gilmore, which we already went over.

-Lougheed has the infamous rough-in that in the end was never used to the original design.

So far it's New Westminster that had any radical integration with buildings built long after the station was completed.

There was going to be a connection from the site of Park Place to Burrard Station too.

However, a lot of this is not Translink's fault. The city of Vancouver should really have made the developers include those extra entrances.

There have been occasional success stories, though. The new entrance to the Granville station which finally provided elevator access after a few decades is one of them.

With regards to Gilmore Station, keep in mind that Onni purchased the land surrounding it earlier this year.. we could see something going up there sooner rather than later.

The fact that ONNI has asubstantial commercial office component at Central is a good sign that -
hopefully - ONNI is receptive to including office space at Gilmore and the station will be properly integrated with the station
(it wouldn't be if the project were all condos).

ONNI also owns the office buildings on the former Lougheed Drive-In site next door.

The UDP wasn't very impressed with the plans for Broadway/Commercial but it did pass with a 4-3 vote. Here are the details from the Development permit. A whole lot of megabytes for not a lot of info.

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I would also call King George Station a massive integration failure. You can tell that King George was practically designed to integrate into buildings... otherwise, what's the point of the large platform extensions that seem to only accomodate the current emergency stairwells? I reckon Gateway Station could have also done better, but that was a very early example.

Just about no developer, except @ Plaza 88 and maybe Aberdeen Square, has realized the tremendous station integration potential on SkyTrain.

With Aberdeen Square though, it's only so that people can walk in there and say "Help! I'm stuck in a labyrinth! Maybe I'll buy a stuffed pokemon, a bubble tea, and get my nails done before I escape though!"

I don't really feel like rereading this entire thread so..........

Are the current station renovations along the Expo line simply an improvement to the station or are they being lengthened as well to accommodate 3 MK11 trains which we are suppose to {at least according Campbell's transit plan} have running by 2020?

From what I know, there are no platform extensions taking place and we won't be running 6-car MKII trains. TransLink has ordered new 5-car MarkIII trains.

TransLink tweeted this morning that the walkway at Brentwood on the mall side/former bus loop side will be closed off as of August 18th.

They already run double MK11 from Surrey right now, so no increase in capacity? Seems awfully short sighted to go thru all these renovations and not extend the platforms at the same time but then we are talking Translink here.

There are no platform expansions and the new trains are 4-car articulated units, not 5.

Same length as two coupled 2-car Mk II trains, with slightly improved capacity because the coupling joint is replaced with passenger space.

As far as I know, there have never been plans for 6-car Mk IIs.

Maximum length for Mk Is is 6 cars (which we see in the system during peak hours).
Maximum length for Mk IIs and the new cars for Evergreen Line is 5 cars (which don't exist anywhere in our system yet).

The difference between the Mk IIs and the Evergreen Line cars is that the Evergreen Line cars aren't two married pairs, but rather a single continuous link of 4 cars.

Code:
Mk IIs
(======][======)-(======][======)

Future Evergreen Line
(======][======][======][======)

Mk IIs (with future 5th middle car)
(======][======)-(======)-(======][======)

That "$14B Tansit plan" was pure politics (hot air) and won't happen…not by 2020 anyways (most likely not even by 2030).

I thought the plan was for the Evergreen Line to VCC-Clark will run 2-car trains when it opens, but at high frequency, compared to the current Millennium Line which has 4-car trains at half of the frequency. The new 4-car trains will be deployed on Expo Line.

My bad, I mistyped 5-car instead of 4-car MarkIII
