Get ready to say goodbye to this staircase forever.

Here's a 30 year old photo of the original wooden stairs.

Ian Fisher posted a photo earlier on Twitter of the platform-level paving stones all removed.

Can't say I'll really miss that staircase and its awkwardly funneling railings.

Who's gonna rescue those bricks to make their own "skytrain platform" patio deck?
Just need to paint that side of the house to look like an original Mk I car.
Maybe have the sliding patio doors do the *ding dong* chime before they close ...

I can't because the condo board would freak.
*as usual

Yeah, almost 99% sure of it.

Actually, I just re-read the development permit and it sounds like it might be staying on that side of Main but just moving to the Terminal side (with the West Station House upgrades)

Quote:
The work includes an extension of the platform over Main Street along with provision of a new point of access at the south end of Thornton Park. The east station house includes two points of entry; one on the north side and one on the south side. The north
side access will serve the bus/park and pedestrian access. Also proposed as part of the east end of
the platform are two new retail spaces that may also include a bicycle storage space. At the west
end of the station the interstitial mezzanine area is to be removed. While the south side entry will
remain open, the north side entry will be closed off. The existing retail space within the station is
being removed along with the Starbucks in order to accommodate a new entry facing onto Main
Street.
Then for the West Station House (not east) it says

Relocation of existing retail (Starbucks) from Main Street frontage

While most of the people on this site will understand the need for station updates, I think the general public sees a lot of it as translink misspending. Case in point an RFP has just been issued for updates to Brentwood which isn't all that old. Don't think it'll do much for public opinion unfortunately.

7.3 On completion of the Project, the Contractor shall provide TransLink:
(a) all construction drawings on CD. To standardize drawing format, TransLink will provide
a CD containing prototype drawings of A, B, C, and D sizes, complete with border, logo
and all dimensional parameters;
(b) all written specifications electronically (on high density, double sided mini-diskettes,
using Word 7.0 for Windows) and in printed form.
Somebody hasn't updated their RFP template in quite some time.

It's necessary when there hasn't been an elevator on that side of Lougheed in the longest time ever... and even more so when some of the busiest routes are now starting/stopping at that side of the highway due to the Brentwood redevelopment.

I agree, the new stairs and elevator are sorely needed.

As someone who can't walk far, the bus loop at Brentwood is too far from the station. I have serious back pain by the time I get to the platform, enough to have me flat on my back.

That is a waste of money. That part on the South side of the highway is supposed to connect to and be integrated into a development once that site is redeveloped. The developer can pay for the elevator and other amenities like Plaza 88.

Oh I agree, it would have been better for that mezzanine to connect directly to a new development with elevators and escalators etc. However, since that might take another ten years, and since during Brentwood construction that entrance will be even more used than now, an elevator and proper stairs and coverings are needed.

^ Building something ahead of a developer's arrival given a demonstrated need is never a waste of a money. See Surrey for many examples of failure due to reluctance to invest taxpayer dollars into needed infrastructure

I wonder how close to the completion date specified we can expect to see the Evergreen Line open. I suspect that they decided to go ahead with the secondary entrance expansion as at that point, (most of?) Solo District will be complete and the first phase of Brentwood will be nearing completion. The additional throughput will probably be needed at that point.

That's true, it is another factor.
