considering how little they have accomplished at the stadium site so far i have my doubts that they will be able to finish this stadium before the start of the 2017 season. the new falcons stadium is well under way with construction and all theyve done at the braves site is clear trees and start moving gas lines. should be interesting to watch the mad dash to put the thing up.

keep in mind the falcons season in 2017 starts in late summer.. the braves need to be occupying the new stadium before april

Well, this ensures that it will be craptastic.

Hopefully this will keep Fuqua preoccupied for a while, and he can dial back his urge to continually try and ram WalMarts down the throats of intown neighborhoods.

Crocker Partners rethinks apartment proposal on Buckhead Loop

Quote:
Florida-based real estate company Crocker Partners LLC might be rethinking its Buckhead high-rise apartment project, according to real estate sources familiar with the proposal.
Last year, Crocker Partners filed plans to rezone 6.5 acres at Georgia 400 and Piedmont Road — one of the last big sites along the Buckhead Loop — for a 26-story apartment tower and a 19-story apartment tower.
Crocker Partners may put that idea on hold, sources said.

This isn't a strike. Fuqua developments are very auto friendly. No they don't typically build an urban oasis that some of you urbanist want, but let's be serious, the new stadium needs to be auto friendly and Fuqua developments do look nice. You can believe I love urbanity as much as anyone else, but we have to be practical for what sales and what attracts a large market. The truth is that studies show that people simply want shop in an outdoor experience, not necessarily the street-level retail that some people on here have such a fascination for living.

I'm not sure if Target makes you more comfortable, but Walmart is very successful. And as far as my experience, its generally the low-income that acts as if Walmart is beneath them. SMH

What's troubling about Fuqua's developments aren't necessarily the tenants, but the scale of what's built. Almost none of them take into consideration the surrounding neighborhoods. A project like Glenwood Place is completely out of scale between Glenwood Park and Grant Park. It's an off-the-shelf suburban development. It isn't appropriate, especially in light of the property being adjacent to the Beltline and in a neighborhood built for walkability. The Home Depot in Midtown is another example of a development that doesn't fit its surroundings.

Then you are just completely ignorant if that is the conclusion you come to, SMH.

Do a little research into this obscenely successful company and their business practices. They personally disgust me, as they should most with a conscience.

As far as Fuqua goes, check out the latest renderings of the 'mixed-use' complex at the new Braves park. They speak for themselves and his idea of quality, in volumes.

We'll agree to disagree.

Yes a "compromise" has been approved that will include a "future" office building and a "future" senior housing building that will surround the Walmart. Whether or not those future phases are built we can all be sure that this development will be hideous.

I don't know if construction has started but Fuqua's website indicated that they were planning to start this summer.

I rode by the site today and there is no indication that they have started. The old buildings are undisturbed, although you cannot see behind them from the street.

As a libertarian, I prefer to shop at Walmart over Kroger because it's union-free. However, I understand the neighborhood may prefer Kroger and if that's the case then fine. Anyway, I hope the project goes ahead because people need more food choices and price competition.

It says in the article linked above that they hope to start this Fall.

For me it doesn't matter that it's a Kroger vs Walmart. It doesn't belong in this location.

Secondly there are two Kroger stores less than 2 miles from this site both on a major road unlike this development. I kinda doubt that all three will remain open if this is built. Given the proximity of the other stores, it seems that Kroger is doing this to block Walmart from entering the area by building their version of a Walmart.

OK, good point. Maybe Fuqua should try for a Publix, Aldi or even Costco. Costco usually seems to prefer being on less busy streets but with easy proximity to interstates etc. It will be interesting to see what lands there.

Two new proposals will be reviewed at next weeks Midtown DRC review meeting along with a follow-up on the 1010 West Peachtree project. And no parking will need to be built for either project.

NEW APPLICATION: 1330 West Peachtree Street
Conversion of a 5-story office building (National Arthritis Foundation) to a mixed-use restaurant/retail and apartment building. The project includes approx. 5,000 SF of retail/restaurant space at the street level on West Peachtree and 98 apartment units. Existing parking will accommodate all uses.

NEW APPLICATION: Transwestern Midtown Residential Tower
New construction of 14-story residential tower (approx. 120 units) with restaurant/retail space (4,100 SF) at street level on the corner of Peachtree and 3rd Street. Parking will be accommodated in the existing deck located on the adjacent site to the east.
