i was looking at the plans for that brick building just north of the midtown MARTA station and thought the same thing.
i don't have anything against bricks. some of the most impressive buildings in this city are made of brick. but the brick architecture that has been in style since the late 80s has been incredibly bland and tasteless.
they ruined the riverwalk in columbus by using this sort of brick architecture; it looks like every suburban bank built in 1995:
not surprisingly columbus' synovus bank had a lot to do with its construction, but i digress.
brick buildings for some reason just aren't built the same as they used to be. check out the historic apartments on peachtree place, the countless brick corner stores from the 1920s with terra cotta roofs, etc.
modern brick architecture is just boring.
