Vancouver has a fairly low vacancy rate in downtown office so I could definitely seem some 30 story office towers going up.

When you get to really large towers, especially over 40 stories, developers usually won't build with a very major tenant already in place. Vancouver is not a head office city so there are limited options for that unless they can coax an existing office user to move tto the new building which isn't easily done and very expensive.

There is another thing that inhibits a very large development in Vancouver and that is height and footprint restrictions. The later is probably even more important for office needs. You don't realize how thin Vancouver towers are until you start comparing with other building from other cities such as as the images section in the database. By looking at the towers and then see other ones you realize how slender Vancouver towers are. That is fine for relatively small employers who need relatively small space but very large employers tend to prefer larger open spaces and often those large spaces won't be built without a major tenant lined up to begin with.

Man, this image just shows how much Larwill Park and Canada Post building is just screaming to be redeveloped. It will definitely help anchor downtown Vancouver's creep eastward.

I find it a little ironic that people are talking about wanting to add new office space to downtown Vancouver when located in those shots there are 4 major office towers being erected.

2 over 30 floors and 2 more over 20 floors. There are also a couple other smaller ones between 10 and 20 floors being built.

There are several more office towers in the planning stages currently that may be launched sooner than expected given how fast these now towers are being leased. (faster than people thought).

So dont worry, Vancouver is doing fine, they also happen to be among the most esthetically pleasing new office towers in Canada IMO.
