i'm an environmentalist and a leftist and i think it looks neat. plus, my friend lived in that building for several years, so i know it well and think it's sort of cool to see it look a bit different.

I quite like it. I may have chosen a slightly different image for that particular wall just because of it's shape, but I think it will look good. Tankers have been part of English Bay for decades, I hardly think it is something that should piss off the enviro-nuts. Although I'm happy if it does. lol

Agreed - poor choice for the shape of the "canvas" - maybe the trees will block the area in front.

The office tenant is taking all of the upper floors, I think the two levels just means that the Homer St. entrance is lower than the Dunsmuir St. entrance with a lower floor towards the north side of the building. You can see this in the render on Omnicron's page (it took me a little fiddling with the view size to display the entire picture).

BTW office tenant moves in next weekend.

I would have thought it would take at least a few years for another building to match or beat the ugliness that is The Mark. It was done in under a year.

Seriously though, what happened? How does the UDP pass this? It looks like two already mismatched buildings were stitched together by a column of balconies. I don't want to get all hyperbolic in here, but....

I'm hoping that's plastic on the spandrels on the right side and that once peeled off they'll match the left side.

That's definitely a protective covering. Lord have mercy on us all if not.

Even with the covering gone, this building is a mess. The right-side of the building is very angular; your typical vertical rectangle with angular window boxes and spandrel, yet for some reason they decided to throw circular balconies on it. The left-side's spandrel colour combo and patterns make no sense whatsoever and offer no cohesion to whatever is going on on the right-side. To make matters worse, both sides of this building are brought together by triangular balconies running down the middle.

I just don't understand the thought behind this design at all.
