My recollection is 1966, it was one of the infrastructure improvements the city was unable to finance that spurred it's transfer to the Federal Government.

I checked out the aircraft on airliners, that one fugly color scheme. I'm sure the inside is nicer, but fat chance of getting an interior photo.

It's a requirement for departing from parallel runways. Their tracks must diverge by 15 degrees soon aftert getting airborne. They'll always be turning off the easternmost runway.

It's very bland now, but used to wear full colours once upon a time.

We also had a Royal flight 747-400 at CUN awhile back for what I can assume was a vacation since it sat on the ramp for over a week.

I guess some Shieks will play.

Bland or not it was really cool to see!

Also my first experience with anticipating a 35R arrival and ATC asking them if they'd like 35L for the shorter taxi, which they took. Next thing you know we had a convoy of spotters racing back towards the 35L locations!

She has been repainted!

The photos from last year showed just a red cheat line with nothing else.

Looks like 35R departures from taxiway S is becoming a thing, still 12,200 feet remaining from there. Shorter taxi for everybody.

Oh ya for some reason I went all the way to Palmer road and shot from the end of that road while forgetting completely about the condor spot.
There were a bunch of German spotters who I met that were scurrying around the airfield when I was spotting on the parallel runway. You'll hear them chanting and hi fiving each other after getting some collector item aircraft like the disney plane.

I too noticed S departures off the parallel and that makes sense, 737's do not need anywhere near that full length and if they are allowed to take off without going all the way to the end that is fair. I even see dash's or Beech's doing the full taxi and I wonder if that is even necessary and allow a midfield run instead..

hey guys!

I am a spotter from YYZ. I have visited YYC couple of times over the last 2 years, and now I am back for some more. However, I dont have a clue about spotting locations for the new runway (both ends). If anyone can advise on possible locations, that would be awesome.

Seems like Bigtime has found a spot along 36 St at 64 Ave... it's almost right abeam the 35R threshold. Really anywhere along 36 St is worth checking out. Departures going either way will be banking toward you. There's a spot right at the end of Airport Rd that I've circled in orange here:

Looked like a great vantage point for 35R rotations. I was only in town for opening day and haven't seen 17L operations yet so maybe someone else can chime in.

I was there, but the heat haze will be an issue in the summer. Still too far from the runway if you stay next to 36 St.

I'll have to check out that other spot you show, looks very promising.

Also if you like seeing the airplanes taxi up close as much as I do, you can pretty much reach up and grab their wingtips as they go by at this spot:

Almost all 35R departures go over this new bridge over McCall Way.

So i made my way to the location Acey was referring to and I was amazed by the view i was getting. Simply the closest i have ever been in any airports i have visited. If someone has a 300-400mm handy, they could very catch action from both runways if the heat haze doesnt become an issue.

here are some of my catches,

this is before entering the tunnel. i stopped to take the AC taxing towards 35R. I took this at 105mm so it wouldnt be difficult to catch the action from here.

and the rest from the parking spot/spotters paradise...
