and here: http://www.manicaarchitecture.com/projects/stadia/6-vtb-arena-park

Manica does real nice work, IMO
It said the $750M was for the whole project (park, apartments etc.) I think the stadium was $210M, but factoring in Labour, larger size etc. I would think $450-500M Cdn

As he said - he's using the FieldTurf website as guidelines

Turf started going down in Ottawa on June 2, the lines were finished on June 16

THIS.... if the stadium isn't ready it wont be because of the turf. Ottawa had their turf ready in 15 days. check out the progress they've made in hamilton in 1 day. if its not ready it will be because of safety regulations

Lloyd Ferguson stated that the occupancy permit will be for July 15. So in 12 days if all the necessary safety features are not in place I imagine the Ticats will be playing at Rogers Centre? McMaster maybe?

Even the construction workers laughed at the idea of it being ready on time.

Apparently they aren't working around the clock to get this done since there was mention of no crew working on Sunday. That's just them admitting it would be a waste of resources for something that has no hope of making the deadline.

It was obvious almost from the start that it wouldn't be done on time, and became more evident with every passing month. It was also obvious that people were lying through their teeth about it.

Sorry, I don't buy your arguments. First the workers aren't privy to the overall picture, what they're working on might not be designated to be finished by the opening game.

Conversely, maybe they didn't need to work extra shifts to complete what they may have planned to be completed by the 26. Seats, field and scoreboard are likely to be finished, those are the basic elements needed. What is in more doubt are the safety and other issues: railings, elevators, running water, washrooms, marked exits and entrances, fire exits and sprinkler systems.

It was never obvious from the start that it wouldn't be completed. No one here is a construction expert, all we had was amateur speculation of far away photos and ill will from many right off the start because of some perceived slight that the stadium wasn't exactly what they wanted.

The last part of your comment may be the only part that bears any weight. IO has repeatedly advised the Cats and the city that they would be able to get occupancy for the opening game. If that doesn't happen I would call shenanigans because harsh winter and spring or no, bankrupt contractors or no, they had plenty of time to advise that the project might not make the opening date even in near complete form.

TD is just so damn ugly with the two different designs of stands. Looks like a giant hatchet job.

Right at home in Ottawa I guess.

So do you feel the same about pretty much every English Premier League stadium? Other than Emirates Stadium for Arsenal, they all have non matching stands

Was at THF on Monday, June 30. No turf at the time, maybe two thirds of the seats in. Under the east side stands - just dirt. Less than 30 workers visible on site despite staying for a while.

It's true that most of us aren't stadium construction experts, but it's probably also true that most people here understand that no city will allow 24,000 spectators into a stadium unless they are sure that they can be evacuated safely in the event of an emergency, and that there is little risk of anyone being injured due to a construction-related hazard. Can you imagine the negative publicity? The imminent lawsuits if it was shown that the team/city knew that the dangers were present, but allowed people in the stadium anyways?

Remember the Super Bowl at JerryWorld? The ticketholders who weren't allowed to sit in their temporary seats because they hadn't been inspected yet? They ended up watching the game on TV monitors in a meeting room in the basement. If it can happen in the biggest game in the biggest league, it can surely happen in the CFL.

On the Thursday night TSN CFL pregame show Dave Naylor (who's a pretty good source) said that the contingency would be Mac.

hate to break it to you, but some of the world's most iconic stadiums have mismatched stands....

Craven Cottage, White Hart Lane, St. James' Park, Ewood Park, Old Trafford, Selhurst Park... I could go on and on. Those are some of the best grounds to catch a sporting event in.

But nope, you're right, TD Place is unprecedentedly ugly and should be immediately demolished.

Not doubting what you've reported, just thinking out loud.
That would be a logical and sensible decision - so the CFL will probably screw it up

I've heard Ewood Park and Selhurst Park called many things "some of the world's most iconic stadiums" is not one of them
