Interesting article from today on the Chicago Spire, a redesign might very well be underway eventually, I would expect a shorter building but hopefully still pretty tall and nice looking.

The tower at State & Chestnut has a new site. Among the amenities that are being touted on the site:

In unit W/D, high speed internet, a gym and yoga studio, electronic keyless entry, dog spa and dog park, terrace with grills and private dining, etc.

I wonder if they are not putting a pool in this place

I wonder if that sketchy McDonalds at State and Chicago will scare away residents.

LOL - as someone who lives right near this new tower - no. Not at all. It's always funny when people talk about that corner "sketchy." There are some sketchy looking people wh hag out there, but I've lived here for 5 years and have been bothered exactly 0 times. I use the red line stop at least twice a day too.

i cant tell if this is good news or bad news
"While the Spire appears to be back on track" this sounds good and i agree.
but on the other hand the whole article sounded very skeptical, while the developer had written out the financial plans for this and that was a very good sign, im not sure why the author things the spire will fall once again

I think you are misunderstanding that article, it's not news, it's just opinion, and he doesn't really make any statements about whether this will fail or not. It's a good read, but it's not saying anything new.

I never said "news" I just said it's an article which it is, from curbed, where half the information on this site comes from.

^ I think that design will work nicely at that location. It's kind of a dead area, and this textured facade will give it some energy.

Nah, the leasing office will spin it as an amenity and as a taste of real urban living.

Yeah, people on here are always calling it sketchy. I don't think black teenagers are sketchy. I don't think black people are sketchy.

Yeah, I've never seen anything actually go down by the McDonalds. I've seen more happen over by the Water Tower (one time I saw the aftermath of a police/bankrobber shootout on Pearson by Gheridelli) than at Chicago/State. I've seen the cops dragging away purse snatchers and the likes several times near the Water Tower. Funny how people perceive an area as sketchy just because there is the occasional pan handler around. I'm more concerned that one of McDonalds' patrons is going to take me out while pulling into that — drivethru than I am about one of their patrons robbing me or otherwise harassing me on foot. I mean seriously, what is truly sketchy about that location is how there is a drivethru cutting through the sidewalk like 15 feet away from one of the busier subway portals in the city.

When I worked over there I routinely saw police there responding to something. Routinely like multiple times a week. I've also seen small drug buys take place on the sidewalk with my own eyes. But beyond that, I think the mcdonalds itself is sketchy. Why is there a one-story, surface parking lot, non-themed mcdonalds right there in that part of the city? It's absurd. How about a 3-4 floor office with a city-style mcdonalds at the base?

Ha. Plus all sugar and corn syrup in the food. That's sketchy.

Yeah. The only thing I've ever seen was when I first moved here in 2009, I saw some guy choking some woman for about 5 seconds. That was it though. I've never even been asked for money there too and I am there at least twice a day. Though I did see a guy getting arrested on the corner of Chicago and Rush on Tuesday night, but yeah.

I'm sure at least some of the time, the police are called because it's a group of black kids hanging out. I'm not saying they're angels, but neither are the police or the residents.
