This would be a violation of existing planning bylaws, hence the move of 3S is dependent on the city agreeing to it, talks are apparently underway. They damn well shouldn't approve it considering the space available downtown.

Forget the clearance centre, the real beauty is the Balfour, one of my favourite old downtown buildings. The building around the corner is also a great old building, forget the name of it but it has a real Spanish villa feel..



It would be great to see the owners of Victoria's Tavern buy this building, renovate it and put a new business in there.



And I like this shot of agriculture place, shows a nice mix of old and new buildings downtown. Regina does have some nice old buildings, hopefully more of the empty ones get renovated and repurposed..

That is an interesting use for that building. I wonder if they would have a use for the basement, which is the same size as the main floor.

It also doesn't make sense to use a valuable retail space for office use. Plus, it leaves a giant parking lot which will be empty. Perhaps they plan to stick a new building in part of the lot?

I'm not sure it's as valuable as you think it is. A strip mall there likely would have been leased by now, but a big box of that particular size may not fit a lot of needs.

Vic Square has opened up the rear (south) wall of the former Zellers fronting Quance. It is pretty clear they are creating a new store front on the back. Vic Square is lucky in that although the Zeller's space is massive, it fronts 3 major arterials: Victoria, Quance and UP Dr. This should make it easier to break up into smaller bits.

The Saskatchewan government has launched an investigation into the proposed Wascana Village development.

That's the project the rural municipality of Sherwood wants to see built one kilometre south of Regina, a development that could be home to 14,000 people

I like how the article mentions - in passing - that the RM's Reeve owns the land the development is proposed to sit on was raised as a concern... but not the only concern.

Just happened this was the perfect parcel of land - identified completely independently of him. I'm sure Sherwood's Council was shocked - just shocked - to learn that he had an interest in the land... you know, since the idea & location came up so organically... good thing he flagged the potential conflict & recused himself. #smh

Yeah I think this is a clear sign that the province is not going to let this go forward. I personally hope that the province/city simply annex his land for the bypass at the lowest market price even though he clearly went to this trouble to increase its value.

That land was part of the land the city initially wanted to annex last spring. That area was the only contentious space between the RM and city.

I fully expect the province to stop the development. At which point annexation is almost a guarantee.

That's what you get for being a little greedy. But hey go Bypass! I expect the RM of Sherwood will just all be annexed to the City and will be no more in the near future.

There is a lot of land that doesn't have a lot of value for the city for that to happen. What should happen is Sherwood should be split up between the Rm's of Edenwald, Pense, Lumsden, and Bratt's Lake. The Rm of Sherwood can't maintain what it has now and cares more about trying to build a town than the farmers in the rm.

I have high doubts that it will happen, nor is it much of a good idea. After all Saskatoon seems to have good relations with it's respective RM; RM. 344 Corman Park

That building around the corner from the Balfour with the Spanish villa look, if you're referring to the apartment block on Lorne St. That is called The Frontenac. My Dad was the live-in caretaker of that building for several years in the 90s if I recall my dates correctly.
