Maybe we'll get a good design out of this afterall. I remember he also was planning a "hundred story" tower near Cenrral Park. Maybe he will go for it here.

Its visionaries like him that we need. Although I did like the current design, but, always up for something new and improved.

That would be interesting, being so close to 1WTC.

It was an awful design. I really liked the original one, and hope that the new plan resembles the old one, properly scaled of course.

That's it. I wonder if the Central Park thing is still in the works.

Shvo will likely redesign the tower with smaller floor plates for grand, full and half-floor luxury condos.

Add a sprinkling of street retail plus a hotel base and the residential views will tower over the World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor.

There is no height limit, and for a visionary like Shvo, there are no limits.

I actually liked the current design but I am very intrigued to see what Shvo will do with the site cause now I expect something great.
As far as the older design it might still show up downtown considering the Fisher brothers just bought 92 fulton street from Matrix and might be looking to get the adjacent sites too. I don't have details on the footprints but they seem to be in the same ballpark.

I like the quote "no height limits". Considering what people say about this guy, he could really get wild with this tower.

It would be interesting if something was built which had a significantly higher roof than 1WTC.

Alright I think we are getting a little carried away. I would expect something around 1200-1300 feet here. I doubt he wants to be the guy that builds the tower that "takes attention away from the most patriotic building in the world"

Nah I doubt he thinks that. I don't think most developers care about symbolism. If money could be made make building something taller, then they will do it. Thats capitalism right there. The best opportunity to make a profit rules all. Just look at the Hudson Spire. It it comes to its true reality and potential, it would trounce the title of NYC's tallest from WTC1. And even then, 432 Park Ave will be taller when it comes to the roof. In a growing city, we can't allow one tower to be the kind, even it its symbolic. The ESB is symbolic, likewise the original WTC was too, but we need to move on. Can't live in the past.

I doubt a revised design would be taller than the roof height of the Freedom Tower. I would love to be proven wrong, but I wouldn't expect it. Another supertall to balance the Downtown skyline along with 80 South Street would be fine. I can remember back to the first potential sign of building tall again after 9/11, the proposed 1,050 ft NY Place tower on Fulton Street. We were very excited to even see a tower of that height get built not only Downtown, but in the City again. Now, I don't even keep the exact number of 1,000 ft NY proposals in my head anymore.

I agree, but 432 is in midtown and hudson yards is pretty far away from the financial district. If I'm not wrong, Im pretty sure 22 thames is pretty close to One world trade. Like NYGuy said, I would expect this to be in the range of 1000-1200 feet.

I can't help but think this broker will shorten the height of this tower.

Or is he the real deal?

If you read the article, the new design will have smaller floorplates, so obviously the tower will be taller than the previous design.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that this will be taller than 1WTC by roof height, the site has 359,130 square feet available compared to Steinway's 316,000 sq/f and the latter is taller than 1WTC. Not saying it will happen but if Shvo wants to make a splash downtown, it's possible, his wife sure expects something big down there based on her tweet.

The Steinway tower itself isn't taller than the Freedom Tower by roof height. If it's crowned with a spire or some other element, then yeah it could be taller.

I don't count 1WTC's stick but I do count Steinway's crown (which allegedly will take it to around 1400 ft), so it depends on your perspective but I get your point.

Steinway's crown is actually spires, the roof height is below that of the Freedom Tower, as is the occupied space. I wouldn't use it as a reference for building higher than that. Also, this site isn't on W. 57th Street where building the super luxury towers in that range are driving the heights. I would be presently surprised by anything that tall, but expecting would only be setting yourself up for disappointment.

I very clearly stated that I'm not expecting anything taller than 1WTC but that doesn't mean it's not possible if the developer wants to go that route so I'm not sure what's the point of this conversation.

I'm not sure either, but no one forced you to comment on anything, feel free to exit whenever you want.

I am simply suggesting no one expect a tower taller than the roof height of the Freedom Tower. Can it happen? Obviously. Is it likely? Not much.

Well, that certainly changes this conversation. I bet they are considering building something taller then 1WTC (roof height), but I still doubt that he will build anything taller the 1200 feet.
