Yep. Big nerdy fan here. My brother, his wife and I visited his grave up in Dallas. We saw the house he grew up in and the high school he attended. I never had the pleasure of seeing him live, though, I've gone to several of Jimmie's concerts. One of our family friends says one of the things he's looking forward to when he dies is being able to go to another SRV concert.

You're missing out. My dad was the same way. My aunt took my brother and me to Schlitterbahn around 1993 with our cousins. It was the first time I'd been there. After that we tried convincing our parents to take us. My mom was game for it, but my dad wasn't really interested. My dad was the kind of guy who would get in the surf at the coast in his bluejeans. My brother says our dad was the most redneck German he ever knew. lol Anyway, we finally convinced them to take us. Schlitterbahn was having a fathers get in for free for Father's Day deal, so we went. My dad said, well, I'll watch, but I won't get in the water. My mom told him to bring his swim shorts in case he changed his mind. He went ahead and did, still insisting he wouldn't be interested. Anyway, we got there and my brother and I right away jumped into the lagoon. The lagoon is just a large swimming pool about 3 1/2 feet deep in the main area of the park just as you enter. It's surrounded by picnic tables and lounge chairs. Of course we wanted to do all the rides, and with our 5 year old sister coming along, it was difficult for my brother and I to do any of the rides without our mom coming along without our dad staying with our sister. My mom again egged my dad on to go for it. So he finally did. He went and put on his shorts. I think the first ride we did was the soda straws. The soda straws are a pair of twisting fiberglass tubes. They're a ton of fun because you can race your friend, and they are fast. So we did that a few times and my dad absolutely loved it. We ran back up to the line again over and over. We did nearly every ride in the park. We typically stayed until the park closed, by then most of the people had left, so you could go through a ride and then get through the line again pretty quick. It became tradition for us to do the soda straws over and over until the park was very nearly closed. We went back probably another dozen times or so in the next 5 years before our dad died. We went back several more times after that, but it wasn't quite the same. We actually went last year in June on Father's Day which was neat. My brother and sister both have kids now.
