I have tickets but with our schedule right now it could go either way.

As for aircraft that are supposed to be there I've heard the following:

-Air Canada 787
-Air Canada Rouge A319
-WestJet Magicplane aka Mickeyjet

With YYZ-ZRH going to the 333 for the weekend; its obvious the AC 788 will be on static display.

I have also heard no inside tours of the dreamliner unless you are AC employee or accompanying an AC employee.

Anyone around YYC today and able to confirm if there are now only 2 cranes at the IFP?

I did a pickup there Saturday morning and a mobile crane was on site and appeared to be taking the counterweights off one of the cranes. I assume it was coming down.

Understandable (from a security point of view), but a shame nonetheless.

Would have been cool to see an A380 for the event, even just for a quick photo op/tour.

I'm still holding out hope that BA will bring in the A380 for the new terminal opening. After all they did bring Concorde for the original terminal opening all those years ago.

New terminal at YMM opened today. Couldn't find any pics up on their website, anyone planning on flying through there anytime soon?

I've had a peek at the proposed list of displayed a/c. There's quite a bit on there. I'll try to take notes and pass on the more interesting ones.... CYYC will be buzzing with lots of them flying in on Saturday.

I too will be at the Roam the Runway event. So excited to see all the goodies lined up along the runway and can't wait to see what else is in the mix for the static displays.

Question for Nick and CYEG66. I am also looking at doing a helicopter photo flight that day to cover the static items on the new runway as well as the departure of the 787 on Sunday afternoon. Proposed orbiting location would be over the new runway during the morning hrs for the static items/new IFP photos and then another orbit over the old ATC to catch the departure in the afternoon between 230-430MST.
There could potentially be conflicts regarding Rwy11/29 operations if that rwy is going to be used.
What are your thoughts? Would you allow this on a special occasion such as this?
Block times on the R22 would be about 15minutes per sortie x 2 or 3 flights to total 45mins worth so to time the 787 and 777 movements.
I am already in talks with a operator at the airport to iron out details as they seem to be familiar with photo flights.

I can tell you 100% for certain that there's a chance that suburbia may be correct.

Was just driving down Heritage dr. at McLeod and noticed a AC wide body coming in to 34. It was banking to it's left then to its right at a lower than normal altitude. Any reason for this?

Kidding aside, that would be a cool PR coup were BA to show up unannounced with the A380, then for kicks, park it in a way that it partially shrouds the AC 787 from view, or simply beside the 787 to show what a "cute little" plane it is.

I'm going to Run the Runway but didn't think of getting tickets to Roam. If anyone has extras or won't be able to make it I'd love to go in your place.

Keep in mind that we have an airport to run and the SID for all departures is 7000 feet. You would have to be at 8000 feet at the very least over the airport. But if you are going back and forth in an R22, could you even maintain 8000' ASL? And would the pictures be any good from that distance?

I guess with big enough glass it would be ok. Probably not like those banging shots we see on the departure end at LAX though.

Yeah, my gut tells me that you'd face too much adversity from the ATC point of view, what we describe as a nuisance that makes TCAS yell at pilots and chances for overshoots unacceptably high. We've accommodated one R44 about once a week for the last few years while the runway was being built, and he was hired by the airport authority for progress shots, thus we were urged to accommodate. Rarely are photo flights allowed within even 3 miles of the airport. I like your enthusiasm, but don't be surprised if you get stonewalled.
