What about the official maps:

http://www.octranspo1.com/images/files/maps/rtn_map.pdf
http://www.octranspo1.com//images/files/systemmap/systemmap.pdf

Only the thick line portion of the first map, or the section highlighted with light yellow background on the second map are transitway.

Yep. Ottawa's Transitway can be confusing to map out, because most of the Transitway routes run as local routes at their edges. The #95 is the only route that is BRT for its whole length.

nname's rules (follow thick lines only on the official Transitway map, outlined only on the system map) work well.

Well so do Winnipeg's, but I didn't have a problem mapping their BRT out

It's because maps either don't have street names or that the transitway isn't as easily visible as its own corridor on satellite images like it was in Winnipeg and Los Angeles. The stations aren't always as obvious either. But I think the Transitway map combined with the more detailed one featuring street names will be enough to help me finally figure it out. Because right now my Ottawa map consists of the O-Train, which looks like a really depressing mass transit system for a city of that size, so I need to get the Transitway onto there ASAP

The first of the new Toronto streetcars was delivered last weekend.

TTC did a media ride so that information about the new cars can be spread out to the public.

Maybe when Oxford Place gets built we'll see a park built over the tracks at Union. Seems like it would make sense at that point to cover everything up.

the first production streetcar was delivered. The prototype testing versions have been around for over a year, modifications were made (specifically to the accessibility ramp) for the final model. The first of the 3 prototypes has already been sent back to be modified into a production model, the other two will be sent back shortly.

Nice. I really wish Toronto would do that on Eglinton East, it's the perfect area for it. Politicized transit sucks.

I'm only referring to the parts East of Don Mills. Where the ROW is more than wide enough for it. I mean, the Golden Mile is ugly enough as it is.

I'm curious about the actual streetcar capacity.

They are obviously longer than the current articulated streetcars and carry more passengers but they will not have the frequency level of the current fleet. They certainly are nicer and wheelchair accessible but will the capacity on the actual streetcar ROUTES improve? Having POP and air conditioning and new trains is great no matter what but I'm afraid the transit riders might lose a lot of their enthusiasm when they are just as packed onto the train now as they were before but now they had to wait longer for it.

What issue do you have with elevated transit?

Pretty sure it will. When they talk about reduced frequency it's really minuscule. Like not much at all. Something like 1 of 5 cars cut on a route during rush hour. On the existing routes during rush hour I only count on being able to get on if 2 streetcars come in a row. And you can get on the second.

The new ones are pretty much twice the size. It WILL make a difference. I am very optimistic about it.

Unattractive and just a bitch in winter. We have rail corridors that are currently meeting a tenth of their potential in terms of express rapid transit. Save the road routes for localized metro service.

The new streetcars are twice as long as the old ones, so yes capacity will increase.

In other good news, the TTC has an option to purchase 70 more streetcars, which may be needed for additonal routes like Queens Quay East. As well the TTC will likely keep some of the old streetcars in service longer than required to ensure there are no frequency or capacity issues if they do decide to move forward with the option to purchase additional cars.

the new streetcars will increase network capacity by 30%, even though there are 44 fewer streetcars overall.

If the order for 60 additional streetcars that the TTC wants gets funding, the network capacity will go way up.

The streetcar network like the SRT has a lot of latent demand as they run at maximum capacity, if capacity increases ridership will shoot up very quickly with it as people currently simply cannot get on at rush hour. I expect to see streetcar ridership skyrocket over the next few years as this capacity starts to be increased. The TTC will get its first capacity increase on the streetcar network since the 1980's starting in august when they retire 3 ALRVs but introduce 6 new streetcars. (there was actually a small increase when the st. clair line was upgraded as less were required to operate on it, but capacity was severely decreased in the 1990's when the new streetcar lines opened on Spadina and Queens Quay stealing streetcars from other parts of the network)

Thanks for the info and that good to hear and I think the extra streetcars will definitely be needed as the inner city population continues to soar. The POP and level boarding will greatly reduce dwell times so I suspect travel times will be reduced due to this and less bunching. Now if only Toronto would give the streetcars the ROW they deserve like Melbourne does.

Oh do tell! What's Oxford Place? (I'm not from Toronto but am fascinated with the city and all it's history and architecture.)
