TELUS Field is a great little stadium and it would be shame to see it torn down but how much does it cost to maintain with very minimal usage? In the winter no one uses it and with the Capitals gone, the only ones who use it are the Prospects who don't play many games and get tiny crowds (could be moved to a much smaller park).

Unfortunately, it might be better in the long run to demolish it and use that land for better uses.

The Oilers were talking years ago about getting a Canadian Baseball league up and running. Hopefully now that everything is moving forward with the arena that will be the next project they tackle. E towns sport community just isn't the same without some decent level of baseball that can attract a few thousand fans for an evening game.

Me as well... we need to find other uses for it should we temporarily not have a team. Put outdoor rinks in there for winter, hold more concerts there, allow minor soccer there, show outdoor movies there.... etc etc etc

I have never been an activist or protester per say.

But if the City is actually thinking of tearing down Telus Field.

I will be at city hall with pitch fork and fire stick.

And if the city still wants to go ahead with demo.

I will chain myself to the front gate!!

The place is a Jewel. And can be used for so much more.

I am sure that staff member would love to have the space for a community garden to support the local food strategy. That his comment was noticed by the media will likely mean a bit of a reprimand. Dangerous territory for a person that could be mistaken as a senior official.

Fixed that for you

In all seriousness, I'm sure this was just an off the cuff comment that has no substance behind it.

Exactly... if we're talking about maybe building a soccer stadium 10-15 years down the road, it'd be pretty dumb to tear down this stadium when it could be converted (Portland did an amazing job with their baseball to soccer stadium conversion).

Or how about cricket? This seems to be getting popular as more people immigrate here from other Commonwealth countries.

Good memories of that place as a kid watching trappers... But would love to see it repurposed for Edmonton FC.

On another note... Heard speculation today that Stantec's head office options will be discussed at the next board meeting. If true would likely mean August would be the earliest you hear anything public about it after Q2 release.

Oh and because I know sidewalk closures and pedestrian access are a hot topic right now, how have I never noticed this bit of the third world right in our downtown before?

You haven't noticed that before? What?! Yeah I really hate that stretch of 102 Ave. I don't care that much about the business, but there should at least be a sidewalk in what is supposed to be a pedestrian friendly environment. This is across from the proposed Scott Park and a block from trendy 104th, how has this been allowed to go on?

Some excavation work on going at MaKewan as well. But Hardly any work proceeding at 107st.

Also, past some tower crane part heading east into YEG as i headed out to Jasper this evening. And the Stantec rumours, i was told the decision has been made and announcement is forth coming.
