I am totally confused. My friend works for Encore and just operated a YYC-YXS flight the other day on DH4! A one off tail swap perhaps?

On Flyertalk an AC executive confirmed that they made revisions to the 77W to increase MTOW - hence the changes.

Makes sense. I need to get onto flyertalk!

AC had another record load factor for May. Asia Pacific just under 90%.

Edit: read the relevant threads in flyertalk but the issue of increasing the MTOW didn't get answered fully. It appears the increase in MTOW is not enough to fly the flight fly loaded unrestricted.

Councillor says “massive” amount of commercial projects to go up around YYC

There are buildings springing up left, right and centre around the airport and one Calgary city councillor says expect more to come.

Ward 3′s Jim Stevenson says the next three years will mean “extreme growth” when it comes to land development around the Calgary International Airport.

He tells 660News, the airport is a very attractive place for businesses to locate and it helps YYC is the third busiest airport in Canada.

“The fact that the airport tunnel is there and is going to provide good access in the decades to come, that’s important for a lot of companies, because they want to be able to move goods and services around, and people around,” he said.

Stevenson adds, it’s an exciting time; there are dozens and dozens of commercial projects in the works or in the planning stages.

Yes. It was already a jobs hub, but it is really moving to another level!

I'm still anxious for some fantastic developments at Aurora Business Park, now that Airport Trail is connected through. Being along the NC transit corridor, it is quite ideal (though, the NC corridor is so successful, CT will need to get a move on with something more very soon).

3-class 777s with 10-abreast Y will eventually operate to SYD in a couple of years I guess since all 777s are being converted?

Perhaps. Predominantly a -600 route, occasionally it's the -700. And yes, exactly why WS bought the Q400, to serve routes like YYC-YXS and YEG-YKA (as examples) where Boeing 737's are attimes too much metal.

And Cage, thx for the specs. Strange that they arrive on fumes from time-to-time. Much in the same way Sunwing flies MUVR-CYEG.

Nothing revolutionary here but in regards to the 77L to FRA, my friend at AC thinks the airline was probably contemplating this for a while and that they "plan to make good use of the cargo lift of the 77L in YYC, which is probably part of the reason we're currently seeing 2x 77W..."

As Bigtime said, only 5 additional seats per day: A333 = 37J/228Y, and 42J/228Y in the 77L. But of course, there's only 6 77L in the AC fleet and only 55 have been built PERIOD, so it's quite awesome for little old YYC to have her regularly scheduled.

Sounds like the old ATC tower is going to come down in July.

The funny thing is that people forget that we already have Canada's longest runway.

Gets annoying doesn't it?

Getting tired of looking at those nice 77W's from the tower yet Nick?

What a shame it couldn't be repurposed. Would have made a neat martini or tapas bar with a killer view!

I've only seen the KLM one and a single ACA one. I've been on midnights lately so I haven't seen all of them together.

AC wants to keep the 333 in Eastern Canada as much as possible, plus I believe the only 333 pilot base is located at YYZ, the YVR 333 base has been turned into Dreamliner operation. This is the primary reason why the 77L has been placed onto YYC-FRA.

Also its 6 additional seats, not 5. On the 333; one J seat must be reserved for pilot crew rest. The 77L has crew rest facilities above the J cabin. IIRC the FAs also get crew rest seats in the Y cabin on the 333, where as the 77L FA crew rest is above the back end of Y.

Still, that's a lot of extra airplane bulk to carry around for a meagre 6 additional seats! Hopefully the extra cargo uplift more than offsets this.

15.3 tonnes in the 77L vs 13.9 tonnes in the 333 as per AC's numbers. But the 77L is 20 tonnes heavier empty, and she probably can't stretch her long legs only flying 8.5 hours to FRA... without knowing any of their numbers it almost seems like the 333 is the better fit for this route. These numbers would support the "base shuffling" as well.

Roam the runway is one week away. Who is going from SSP Calgary? Does anyone know the list of airplanes on static display?

For the record the Cage family is booked to roam at 11am.

Not I. I wanted to but figured I may not be able to make it (and won't know) so I decided to leave my spot for someone else. Looking forward to seeing pictures from it. I've heard descriptions from someone who's involved in the construction and has toured it several times to check on progress and it sounds like its pretty much ready. I was up there last Wednesday to grab something from DHL and aside from the fencing along McCall Way it looked close to being ready.
