I was basing my assumption on the giddy response to that proposed podium free Orchard project, and thought maybe parking podiums were common in Calgary. It's a good thing it seems they aren't.

Just to be clear, we're mostly talking about podiums like this one, which are very common on projects built in the last decade.

(many of the retail units in the podium shown above are still empty, years after construction finished...)

The idea that a residential tower could be allowed to reach grade without first being intercepted by a podium setback has been pretty much verboten here for a while.

It's funny you say that, because YUL Condos, twin towers with the same height of 120m, are planned to begin construction in September.

They'll be located on René-Lévesque Blvd, just West of the Bell Centre area.
