There's no mention of it on United's website. In fact, it's letting me book a flight for October right now.

Maybe the scheduled time is being changed?

Either way, it would seem pretty drastic to me to go from daily flights to nothing all at once. Wouldn't they scale it back to 3 returns per week first or something?

The only bookings I found on the United site are Air Canada codeshares through Toronto. There appears to be a ton of United service reductions happening in the fall across North America.

Well that sucks! Maybe being a Star Alliance member made the decision easier.

Well, the loss of a direct connection to New York is regrettable, and is a loss of prestige and status for the GMIA, but the decision by the airline may be nothing personal. As magee_b said, United seems to be cutting a number of their secondary routes (like Kelowna/Los Angeles), and centralizing cross border operations out of hubs like Pearson.

I imagine it will be difficult to find a replacement airline for this route. The bright side (if any) is that the passenger capacity won't disappear. The majority of these passengers will instead have to make connections out of Toronto rather than New York. As such, Air Canada may now look at increasing capacity (or flight frequency) to make up the difference.

The only flaw with your theory is: People from other centres that traveled to Moncton to catch that direct flight will no longer need to. They just simply catch the same Air Canada flight from their home town. Thus increasing the numbers at their home airport.

From Saint John's point of few, we are happy to be 1.75 hours to Bangor. No reason to go to Moncton at all.
Flights are less than half from Bangor.

Agree with your statement regarding flights, although not sure what you are driving or at what speed to get from Saint John to Bangor in 1.75 hours?

I was looking at today's 747 cargo flight it was done by Atlas Air and it was a modern Boeing 747-400 not a 200.

yes, the regular plane used for this flight suffered a bird strike and CAL chartered this plane for use normally on their Tel Aviv / Liege / JFK / YQM routes. It was flown as GTI 3502 and not the usual ICL 942. It really made my day to see this Atlas Air Boeing 747-400. If I can somehow add pics, i'd share what I saw today

It always bugs me when Atlas is shown holding the world on his shoulder. He held the inside of the heavenly sphere up, not the world.

YYT is getting a year-round direct service to Heathrow 3 x week. YYT lost this service back in 2007 and seasonal flights started up in 2010, I believe. Along with Westjet starting seasonal service to Dublin things are looking up for SJIA.

It seems we have a few planespotters on the forum from the Moncton area. I don't really consider myself a member of this fraternity, but I do have more than just a passing interest in aircraft of varying sorts.

It is an Airbus A380, the largest passenger plane in the world. Note the upper and lower level boarding gates. I saw three of these beauties at CDG (two Emirates Air and one Air France). They were all on the tarmac so unfortunately I didn't see one take off. That would have been something to see……

I'm sure some of you have noticed that I haven't been too active on the forums recently. That's because I've been away three out of the last four weeks, spending time in eight countries spanning nine time zones. I'm pretty tired right now and am busy trying to get caught up on work, but I will soon be back to form and posting more regularly again…….

I flew this exact plane from YYZ to Dubai about five years ago. The entire upper level is about 50 business suiets and 8 first class rooms. There is also two showers available and two bars. My business suite had an 8 inch LCD remote that controlled everything and I had a minibar with snacks and drinks in my suite. Really a pretty amazing piece of machinery. Supposedly the new Dreamliner is even better.

Air Canada just received it's first Dreamliner. Would be nice if they could fly it to the Atlantic Air Show, but that's not going to happen..... but we can hope.

Terrible news about the United flight, although I half expected it when Continental was bought out...They really stood behind the flight and marketed it well in NB...that all ended when United took over.

Hopefully someone will fill the void soon.
