Yes, that's a big, ugly (IMO) house with the strange pink tiles and the lookout/gunner station(!) on top, in The Greens. You can see the glass 'dome' above all the houses in the neighbourhood. It stands out from a distance, especially when driving south on Woodland Grove Drive.

It's just a name. And if we're going to start judging people based on names how about I start with yours.

The fact that you are incapable and unwilling to discussing things you disagree with is ridiculous. Just because I express an opinion on something you are madly in love with doesn't mean that you get to turn into whiny, teenager incapable of reason and discussion. I hate the stadium. I hate a lot of bad architecture in this city. But you have spent zero time actually understanding what I am interested in or what I am advocating.

Basically what you're saying is this: my politics are x, someone elses are y. Therefore we should ban Y. Give me a break.

So what do you hate about the stadium, and what would you have done to renovate the current stadium to make it last longer?

If you hate the architecture in Regina, then do something about it. (Or just move away.)

I personally think Regina has beautiful architecture!

I don't agree with BrutallyDishonest, but you guys are treating him extremely poorly.

We need opposing viewpoints and dissenting opinions so we can fully appreciate what is happening. It helps us understand some of the viewpoints in the city that aren't as gleeful as us.

Just because I disagree with him does not mean I want him gone.

You are trolling as much as he is. And while I even doubt you know his internet history elsewhere, that should have no bearing on his posting here provided he is not trolling or attacking people.

Do you think that excavation at the Canterbury site is deep enough for a three level underground parking structure? Assuming they have finished excavation.

There doesn't appear to be any shoring so I doubt they are going any lower than the one level they have dug out.

I briefly lived in the greens. I know exactly what you are talking about. Every time I brought friends into the neighbourhood I had to show them this monstrosity. Definitely does not fit into the neighbourhood.

It's quite simple. You knock down the east side and rebuild new. On the west you address any structure, add new seats, upgrade the washrooms, etc. Boom $150 million.

The idea that we need a new stadium is ridiculous. We're only a decade out from having terrible attendance and a struggling team.

Architecturally the new stadium is nothing to get excited about. It is standard, American stadium architecture from the last decade. Is is not enclosed (nor should it be) and it is literally oriented like a trumpet to blast sound towards the Cathedral Area. At the very least we could have stuck with the concept drawings that were released two years ago, instead having it completely redesigned in an inferior manner.

Stadiums are simply a waste of money. They don't make money and they do not drive economic progress. Virtually every study agrees. They are simply a symbol. Most importantly a symbol of waste and largess.

I will not apologize for criticizing public money being spend on sports teams that barely uses the facility.

What would you have me do? Do you think it's likely that my name is Paul Hill or Gavin Semple or similar who can actually build large scale projects which actually have an impact on the architectural direction of the city.

I do my part. I've designed my own house using contemporary architecture and design. I've helped build family members houses in a contemporary, interesting design that doesn't isn't a faux 1918 Victorian that everyone on this forum seems to adore, ignoring that we've move a bit in 100 years.

But lets move beyond your complete misreading of what I've said: I didn't say I hate all Regina architecture. I said I dislike bad architecture in Regina, of which there is lots. Regina has some nice architecture (Federal Building, Canada Life Building, aspects of the Central Library, numerous mid-century detached houses, Capital Pointe [which will never happen] etc).

You are free to like Regina's architecture but I would argue it represents a lack of understanding of what is happening elsewhere. Regina is insular and tends to pat itself on the back now that we have more money. But Regina's architecture is nothing in particular to be proud of when you take a look around.

The stadium simply isn't amazing. It's not hideous by any stretch and yes of course it's better than the existing facilities but there's nothing particularity outstanding. Again: it falls in line with standard American stadia. It's not iconic and it's not going to stand the test of time, architecturally speaking.

Lipstick on a pig is what should be done. It's a football stadium. Rarely used. Loses money. Why does that deserve $280 million? Provide an answer that's better than "the riders are awesome and Saskatchewan is rich now!"

The old Taylor Field site is scheduled for lower income housing. That is something that is actually very important to the city. But it also means that it almost certainly won't be "amazing", but rather functional. Likely it will end up being low-rise, perhaps town houses and economically built. But let's be clear, the stadium moving is not the determining factor for affordable housing. $280 million would create multiple schemes for such ideas.

The CP yards have the potential for good development. They also could have had a stadium. But once again, the CP redevelopment would have happened whether the stadium ever came up. It's prime (albeit contaminated) real estate next to downtown. Yet again there are plenty of good sites downtown that haven't been developed so there is no guarantee of massive, architecturally relevant development there.

If you think this is bullying then you clearly were home schooled and have never interacted with the real world.

Maybe you can explain what forums I've been banned from? List one?

Oh that's right you are still operating under the asinine assumption that I'm Chad Novak because... I don't like the stadium.

Here's a bit of news flash: there are plenty of people in Regina who do not want a new stadium. The sea of green you see does not represent everyone. If you think that one deranged mayoral candidate is the sole-representative of opposition to the stadium then it's a bit difficult to take you seriously.

A forum is a place to discuss and disagree. Just because a developer or person or group decides to build something in Regina doesn't mean that everyone has to immediately fall in line and praise it. Just because you're a fan of a football team doesn't mean it's good for the city. You want it but that means nothing at all, except that you are OK with the government spending on your pet projects but no one else's.

I'm sorry that I tend to disagree with the narrow and apparently only acceptable view: the stadium is beautiful, necessary and will bring great riches to the city.

You yourself are the most disruptive and least contributing person on this issue.

While I agree that generally stadiums are a waste of money in a place like Saskatchewan where they are either useless for 1/2 the year or too expensive if enclosed, I also think that sometimes spending money on something with no possibility of returns is okay. I am okay with government spending money on museums, libraries, roads, etc without them making money, as they serve a public good. One could argue that sports facilities also serve this purpose. True, many do not use them, but the same can be said for libraries or museums.

So I agree specifically in this case with regards to a stadium, but not in general. If we only spent money on things that can pay for themselves back, then there wouldn't be much around to live for in any place.
