Not on an unconditioned garage. Even if...it would be a benefit.

I've been hearing a lot of negative reaction from people in that area. All have said they like the tower's addition of density but have criticized the design. I have to agree. It's pretty awful.


As for Catalyst, great design but the lower facade is in battered shape. Do they plan to redo it?

And James Loewenberg, the developer of Aqua, who took a chance on a young Gang after meeting her at a Harvard alumni dinner, is in the process of obtaining financing for another tower by her. It would rise near Aqua. When Loewen­berg first asked Gang for a design, two years ago, she was in Paris; she locked herself in her hotel room to sketch and then to model, using paper and tape from the front desk. Her design nestles together three buildings, which softly zigzag in and out as they rise.The mid­dle building will straddle a road. The design has been evolving ever since, in response to financial constraints and technical challenges: how to provide enough support for such a large structure without erasing the shape, for instance, or whether that support should come pri­marily from concrete or from steel, so that the two trades aren't competing to lead during construction. After building Aqua together, she and Loewenberg, who is eighty and blunt, have an easy rapport. At one point, he warned Gang that he was going to talk her out of the trapezoidal windows she envisioned for her structure, because they would be too expensive to replace. Gang laughed him off: "He doesn't really know what he's talking about, and neither do I, but I know I want to make something tapering. We'll test out what it looks like, and we’ll l have to prove it." Yes, I have seen the design... she started working on it about a year ago after some early attempts by a good friend. It is taller than Aqua, but look, I know all of these people and I feel like I would be betraying a trust if I talked about it anymore...

Great find Saber! "Aqua II" has my imagination going wild. It sounds VERY promising. Assuming the latest information is accurate, we can safely say it is within the range of 860'-983' Just yesterday I was staring at the gap along E Wacker. Its impact will be unbelievable.

I honestly don't understand why he would put a massive sign on now when the building was built years ago. Everyone, literally everyone knows that it's Trump Tower, tourists, locals, etc. Pretty much 90% of America already hates him, why would he think it's a good idea to plaster his name all over the building.

Are there not city regulations when it comes to signage especially this large and this high up? I thought Chicago hated stuff like this.

I have a who's an architect at one of the big firms in town. He told me that Trump was basically threatened by all the Spire talk which is why this sign is there. No joke.

For decades, such tower signage was heavily discouraged, but I don't know that it was ever an actual legal prohibition—or that such a prohibition would have been legally defensible. And mid-century Chicago was chockablock with rooftop signs facing the entire length of Grant Park, Heald Square, the West Loop (Kemper), and even North Lake Shore Drive (PLAYBOY).

Unfortunately, the second Mayor Daley somehow was convinced that a tower sign was necessary to land Boeing, and that seemed to open the floodgates for an entire new bunch: Huron Consulting, CNA, UBS, Chase, United Airlines.

Either way it's exciting, considering it's Gang. I just wish she would get something in the supertall range, because it would be amazing for Chicago
