Can you share any deets on the grocery "in the works"? This sounds as if Post Centennial Park is a catalytic project.

No. I can only share stuff that is publicly rumored or public record.

That's good to hear. I didn't realize the Olympia building Walgreens was going to be any different from their pharmacies, other than being two stories. Now I'm really looking forward to that. I work next door at 25 Park Place, so I'm sure I'll frequent both it and the organic market in the Healey Building.

But a mainstream store would also be a good draw for residents.

All of this is absolutely fantastic news for Downtown. I knew the boom would eventually spread there, but things are really picking up steam fast.

I'm totally excited about the area where Post is going in finally becoming the urban village I knew it could be. Those are nice, small blocks between the Park & West Peachtree, south of Allen Plaza. The streets throughout that area have already been improved with nice streetscaping, trees and new sidewalks.

As I've mentioned in the past, I used to work at Allen Plaza and knew something was up almost 2 years ago now....

That Post proposal is absolutely horrible based on what we're being shown. The scale is completely unacceptable and if it's anything like their development on W Peachtree, it'll be another fortress like development adding nothing to the neighborhood.

According to both the renderings and what Terminus has said, it looks like street fronts are going to be mostly if not all townhome style entrances. Seems like a good thing to me.

Mayhem, could you please explain and say more as to why you don't think the "scale" of the project is acceptable. I'm interested and value your opinion.

I would prefer the look and ambience of Post Riverside, the early 90's urban village project that received national acclaim and still is one Post's best , as this site is prime real estate.

If you ever want to know where any developments are, this is the best place to find out:

http://devmap.io/cities/atlanta/developments

The overhead rendering is from the west side. The small building in the bottom right is the World of Coke.

I do think the map is slightly off... it shows the development extending to Spring St on the east, but in that rendering it looks like it's bound by Williams.

The project is a little bit meh in my opinion, without having access to the details. That's the sort of thing that should be built in downtown Tampa or Orlando; not Atlanta. The downtown of a city Atlanta's size ought to be more or less nothing but highrises imo.

But then again, this is downtown we're talking about and the alternative is likely nothing. Maybe this will be a stepping stone to bigger and better things down the road. Plus it's nice to see downtown sharing in some of the immense positive momentum this city has garnered lately.

Care to elaborate? I think the scale is perfect. It's about 4-6 stories, perfectly fitting within the street grid next to the park. From the renderings, and from what Terminus has said, you can see that the lower units address the street, with street access and the upper units all have balconies to allow further interaction with the neighborhood and street.

I can't fathom how someone could say this is "adding nothing to the neighborhood". By eating up parking lots and vacant lots its adding to the appeal of the neighborhood alone not to mention bringing 400+ residents.

I don't think you know what garden style apartments are if you think what they're going to build is garden style apartments.

I wonder if... this might be just the first phase of what Post has for that area? I was under the impression that they had plans from COP Drive all the way to Spring Street, and it looks as though it stops at Williams Street in the rendering. Maybe I'm crazy... but perhaps they have something bigger for the eastern portion of the project and are saving the smaller, more pedestrian scaled stuff for the Pemberton Place border...? I don't know.

Few things. First, even New York (the largest and densest city in the US) is mostly mid-rises. Second, Downtown is not a very desirable area and can't support that kind of development yet. Third, Tampa and Atlanta are pretty close to each other in size and density, so if this is a good fit for Tampa then it's good for us too
