Thanks for the pic, I was wondering what it looked like from the ground

It's exciting to finally see cranes popping up. By the end of the summer Midtown should be looking like I remember it from 6-8 years ago when so many highrises were going up

$100 million redevelopment of 1940s residential community

Pollack Shores Real Estate Group plans to spend more than $100 million to rebuild and restore the Colonial Homes apartments, a project near Bobby Jones Golf Course that dates back to the 1940s.The project's first phase, construction of a 280-unit complex called The Jane, started last year. Colonial Homes are truly dated-looking and their position next to the Beltline makes them a prime target for redevelopment.
The second phase will replace 84 of the original post-World War II apartments facing the golf course with new four and five story apartment buildings. Plans for a third phase are still being finalized but will likely include a major renovation of the 128 apartment units just south Peachtree Battle Avenue.Pollack Shores has worked with the Atlanta Memorial Park Conservancy on the redevelopment of Colonial Homes and plans to incorporate a 1.5-acre public park in the center of the property next to the golf course and Beltline.

The interior really does remind me of Chelsea Market, just minus the thousands of tourists [that's a good thing]

I'd have to say Underground reminds me more of Chelsea Market as far as the interior. Depending on the person, I think the PCM will look better in the sense of not keeping so much of an old feel, like Chelsea and Underground. With that being said, I think the PCM looks great. Other than the entrance on Ponce, the whole thing has somewhat of a suburban feel.

Emory Point signs new-to-market natural foods grocer

North Carolina-based Earth Fare Inc. plans to open a nearly 25,000-square-foot store at the $ 250 million mixed-use development near Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Earth Fare founded in 1975 by Roger Derrough, is an Asheville, North Carolina-based natural foods grocer. The company website explains a "Food Philosophy" and "Boot list" Among the ingredients and methods banned are: High Fructose Corn Syrup, artificial fats or artificial trans fats, artificial colors, artificial flavors, artificial preservatives, artificial sweeteners, antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones in fresh meat or dairy, and bleached or bromated flour".

The second phase of Emory Point, which started construction last year and is slated to open in 2015, includes 43,000 square feet of retail and 307 apartments.

I wonder the 1.5 acre public park is in this plan? Maybe I am just not seeing it.

Renderings of the new Post project at Centennial park were posted on the Business Chronicle's website today...it looks like the perfect addition to the area!

From ABC.com:
Quote:
The developer wants the downtown project to echo some of its Midtown projects, such as Post Parkside. It may also resemble another Midtown apartment building called Baltimore Row.

Some planners said the new Post project could have the look and feel of brownstones. It could promote a more walkable district along Centennial Olympic Park Boulevard and Simpson Street, they said at the DRC meeting.

Terminus can correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like it's also eating up the parking lots on the other side of Simpson Street next to the Museum Tower and the new Aloft Hotel.

Here is the boundary on the DevMap now: http://devmap.io/cities/atlanta/developments##555

I'm thinking it's on the other side of the street now.

Yes I looked at the map the other day, and I believe it needs to be updated. I'm so glad residential is finally happening downtown. This is a great pedestrian scaled development too.

I went ahead and fixed it.

Yea, I can't agree more about how good this is for the area. 400+ units, addresses the street great, eats up vacant lots / parking lots making the area more vibrant and friendly, and hopefully potentially leads to more development in the area.

This area is going to have alot of foot traffic and the fact that I like about this development personally is that it's going to bring alot of vibe to the Luckie Marrieta District !!!

Post centennial renders

"The developer wants the downtown project to echo some of its Midtown projects, such as Post Parkside. It may also resemble another Midtown apartment building called Baltimore Row."

I would prefer the look and ambience of Post Riverside, the early 90's urban village project that received national acclaim and still is one Post's best , as this site is prime real estate.

Pretty excited about this. The more residential we get downtown, the closer we will get to a grocery store downtown.

A mainstream grocery is in the works, but don't forget that the Walgreens going into the Olympia building will NOT be a Walgreen's Pharmacy, but rather one of their urban markets, with the entire first floor dedicated to groceries. I went to one in San Francisco and they had meat, produce, etc. It will be great for last minute and basic needs. There is also an independent organic market (like Sevananda) going into the ground floor of the Healey Condominiums.
