That would make sense. So where are the temporary bleachers in the renders? Behind the end zone? And speaking of end zones, is that a series of patio decks at the opposite end?

amazing stadium. congrats regina. i believe that is the 33k setup. the uppers bowls aren't very large and the seats are said to be very wide. can see the extra 7K seats going in the scoreboard end as well as the small gaps in the opposite endzone

I thought the same thing, the rendering makes it look way bigger than 40,000. It is just a rendering, however, so I would take the numbers at face value.

The extent of the province's involvement was to approve the Community Revitalization Levy (CRL). The province wouldn't even contribute to the community rink portion of the development. See http://www.edmonton.ca/city_government/projects_redevelopment/arena-funding-model.aspx

The architect from HKS says it will look much larger than 33k when you walk in as the envelope is big enough to accommodate expansion.

At first I thought, how the heck are they going to put a retractable roof on that thing and now I'm thinking it looks so nice without one (although all the renders are in nice sunshine). Would be a shame to see it sitting in snow for 5 months of the year though so maybe one day they will add something.

Having said that, I think its easily the most beautiful and unique stadium in Canada, if not North America. Love that its not cookie cutter design!!

Don't worry. Ken King said there would be an announcement on Calgary's arena soon.

(He said that 3 years ago)

We already saw this vision of a new multipurpose arena, so it hopefully isn't too far off.

[U]VERY[U] nice -- well done, Regina!

Can't quite figure out that strange end zone seating configuration, though.
