Across Lansdowne? Ah, then perhaps some people will use it. There is a large segment of the population in this city that equate no parking lot with no parking, so they will be happy with this.

Apparently the vacant lot on Landsdown opposite Tenderloin Meats is in fact their customer parking lot.

So if there is a silver lining here, the store will be bigger and the parking lot will be smaller.

It is not the same place it was in the past. New immigrants and their taking up residence in this area of Winnipeg are a major factor in this change.

According to my high level source (AKA Mom), there was a city works department and the dog pound (before it moved to Logan). When I was a kid (30+ years ago) I think I vaguely remember a building there. Keep in mind, there was less development around there. Gull Lake didnt extend to Markham. That area was all fields until the 90's. AA Leach School would have been fairly new and the extension of Leach didnt happen until the early 90's I believe.

And while I dont remember the Dog Pound being there, I do remember that lot was in decent shape and declined over the years. it always seemed odd to me that they kept the parking pad in place for basically decades. But I remember being told they planned to have a rapid transit/park & ride station there (and this was 30+ years ago).

Dont know if any of that is true, but thats what I was told.

No park and ride at this point, but perfect location for one if the demand is there. It'll be at the very end of the Southwest Transitway.

Repair the Alexander Docks first.

What a waste of money.

It appears MM thinks the current state of the Alexander Docks is hindering H2O sales. Does anyone agree? What would "repairing" the docks entail? What would people like to see done there?

Exactly. I find it interesting that even 30 years ago, area residents were under the impression there would be rapid transit running along the rail lines in that area.

The plan has been on the books since the 1970s! Any newlywed couple who bought a home there in the early 80s expecting rapid transit to be built soon will probably be retiring right around the time that the line actually opens.

Why park and ride? Why waste perfectly developable land for parking? People treat RT as if it will be multi-modal only. People are allowed to walk to the stations (actually, it should be encouraged). This lot is not a perfect location for park and ride, it's the perfect location for a mixed-use neighbourhood centre.

Instead, let's just take 2 acres of perfectly good land and make it worthless by paving it for parking.

Yes that is a good point. Park & Ride was what area residents talked about decades ago. I dont think its the best use of land now. Actually there is development sized land there but its been empty for ages. A RT station maybe? Its probably not the densest neighbourhood though and would be south of where RT is supposed to turn East and run onto campus (if Im not mistaken).
