I do believe that's the one, but as far as I knew, it was a construction zone, not a deconstruction zone. I thought they were just adding to the current building?

You could be right but it does appear that they have taken much of it apart. It almost looks like they are stripping it back to the girders and then rebuilding whatever is going in there.

http:Widening of Victoria Avenue East on hold: report
CTV Regina
Published Monday, May 5, 2014 7:53AM CST

The widening of a major route in Regina may have been put on hold for now.

According to the Leader-Post, plans to expand sections of Victoria Avenue East have been deferred until the proposed Regina bypass route is finalized.

The widening of Victoria Avenue was meant to ease traffic congestion in the east end during rush hour.

However, with the approval of the south bypass, th4e city will re-evaluate the timing and implementation of the project, and instead concentrate on fixing bridges that span the Pilot Butte Creek at Coleman Crescent

Saskatchewan MP Gerry Ritz and provincial Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris are set to make an announcement regarding the Regina bypass project Monday morning. That project could take upwards of two years to complete.

http://www.leaderpost.com/news/regina/Canada+give+million+Regina+bypass+project/9808144/story.html

REGINA -- Up to $200 million will be provided through the P3 Canada Fund for the construction of the Regina Bypass. The province of Saskatchewan will fund the remainder of the project costs, at a level which will be determined through a competitive P3 procurement process.

“This project is another excellent example of how the private sector can leverage greater value for public dollars and deliver infrastructure that will benefit Saskatchewan and create jobs and growth for Canadians,” said federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz. “I am proud of our government’s ongoing commitment to developing new infrastructure, and I’m very pleased to support Saskatchewan’s choice to pursue a P3 as a better infrastructure solution.”

“Through the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth, we are committed to addressing the challenges that have come with the unprecedented growth Saskatchewan continues to experience, and creating the conditions for future growth,” said Saskatchewan Highways Minister Don McMorris said. “The Regina Bypass will help address some of the traffic issues we’ve seen on Dewdney Avenue, Victoria Avenue East and at the accesses to the communities on Highway 1, east of the city.”

Quick Facts:

-- A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) will be issued later this month by the province to identify private sector proponent teams interested in bidding on the project.

-- The successful proponent team, once selected, will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the project over a 30 year period.

-- The Regina Bypass will be owned by the province of Saskatchewan.

-- Construction of the bypass is anticipated to take three and a half years and the P3 model is expected to deliver the project on time and on budget.

Reed says Phase 3 of Canterbury Common will be 6 floors of condos over main floor retail plus 3 levels of U/G parking. This is larger than the concept.

Ottawa to spend $200M on Regina bypass

Proposed P3 called biggest infrastructure project in Saskatchewan history

Ottawa's share of Regina's big bypass project will be $200 million, the government announced Monday.
The bypass will start at Highway 11 northwest of Regina, then will run to the west and south of the city before reconnecting with Highway 1 on the east edge of the city at Tower Road.

Construction stats

Numbers up in April:

Construction activity took a bit of jump in April, with $52.9 million in building permits issued, versus $45.9 million during the same period in 2013, according to the City of Regina monthly building permit report.

I also noticed there is what looks like a new and sizeable construction site on Dewdney avenue, a couple blocks east of Albert, and east of the new hotel going up, anyone know what this is? There are construction trailers on site, fencing and part of Dewdney is blocked off.

Daytona Homes

Well, I think its official, the boom was too good to last...

Nothin' says 'oops we over-built' like a free car if you buy one of our homes before the end of May promotion...

I guess it is Harbour Landing after all though, if you live there, you are going to need all the cars you can get.

There is many ways to skin a cat, one way is to lower prices to help move product, one way is to provide an incentive to perk people's interest.

Daytona is slowing production, but not completely stopping like Dundee or Crawford for example.

I think the slow down is due to location of homes and yes over stock. I wouldn't want to live south or north, not to mention dewdeny west, maybe just because i'm an east ender. But i know of a few people who are putting off buying homes until "The towns" concept goes ahead or even the one out by tower road that Harvard is going to propose.

I believe the greens is doing just fine in the east and every other small condo gets sold out immediately in the east.

I thought the Harvard project at Tower Rd was just commercial?

Victoria's Tavern

Lots of action going on in the building and they've got their signage up. Also have a bare bones web-site functioning. I didn't know the Queen was a beer fan!

I was walking in the area tonight. It looks like quite a few restaurants are popping up. Victoria's Tavern, one on Scarth Street Mall that looks like a sandwich place, Twenty 10 and that pizza place.

Also noticed that O'Hanlons has opened an offsale beside Michi. Right now they don't have much stock but will be carrying a lot of beer from Microbreweries from BC and Oregon as well as O'Hanlons own stuff. They will also carry some mid to high end wine and mid to high end highballs. It will have very little domestic stuff and target the people working downtown. The offsale is small but it will be a nice alternative to have.

There are quite a few places opening in the downtown area and hopefully it makes the area a bit more lively.
