So basically you have the full license we all should have. Sir, I applaud your decision. I'd almost certainly not bother taking it a step further either.

And I don't care if this is OT. I don't have enough friends with teenaged kids, so I don't know where to ask these sorts of things

It's a useful way to duck out of parties early.

Pretty much. The only downside is you cannot upgrade to a Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 from the basic licence which might preclude you from future employment although that likely doesn't apply to very many people. I'm also not sure but it would not surprise me if many jobs that required driving a company vehicle would be limited to those who have the full licence. I should ask my Safety guys at work what our policy is.

Which makes me wonder:

Safety guy: "Hey, you need to upgrade your license if you wanna drive the company car"

Employee: "Why, so I can have some alcohol in my bloodstream while driving?"

Safety guy: "....."

But yes, it does sound exactly like what corporate drones would ask for.

My guess would be insurance and liability costs might factor into the policy too. And the type of licence you have may affect those rates.

Again, because your insurance rate should go down once you're allowed some alcohol in your bloodstream.

I'm not debating your point (you're almost certainly correct), just the thinking behind it.

Hard to argue with your logic, but of course insurance companies don't always see it the same way, and corporations will do what they perceive to be in their best interests.

I am looking at our Transportation Policy as I type this and a Graduated Licence is NOT acceptable to drive a Company vehicle. The driver must be fully licenced.

I don't make the rules, I just have to live with them at work.

I think it makes sense, because for a GDL you pass a basic road test. You then need 2 years experience(without demerits in the second year) and have to pass an advanced road test to get a full license. Therefore, the full license requires careful driving and a harder road test. If I were making company policy, I'd want drivers to have a full license.

I'd force older drivers to take an advanced road test and pass it then.

Haha, perhaps now that she has hit five she deserves the upgrade in name.

Littletime v2.0 gets promoted to Littletime.

I forgot about this thread. My wife and I welcomed our first born, a son, on May 6th and everything has been going great, besides the normal lack of sleep.

Congrats Simster! Don't worry, you get used to not having any sleep soon enough enough, and by the time you do get used to it, the actual sleep will be back.

Things to look forward to.....

That's an awesome picture. I find myself looking forward to knowing him when he is a man. I have always had a long horizon in my planning but nothing quite like this. It is a strange feeling.
