...that's not retail.

Those are still offices. They could, in theory, be made retail but they're not being marketed as such. And at those sizes they would be unlikely to be retail.

Interesting story in the Leader Post this morning about the arson that destroyed the properties on Retallack & 13th Ave in 1990, leaving that empty lot with the sidewalk that goes nowhere.

Fingers crossed the rezoning plan is approved by the city and the new complex is built there! It's about time, that's a pretty prime piece of real estate that's been empty for far too long.

Actually the space is specifically designed to be convertible to retail. This is from the RPC approval:

The urban design standards in the new RDNP promote a built-form that creates an appropriate
building scale for pedestrians at street level. The subject property is located on a convertible
retail frontage street (Albert Street). These streets are located outside of the existing and
historical retail commercial core of the downtown. Convertible retail frontage streets are those
locations where active retail frontages might not be economically feasible in the short-term but
may be more viable in the medium to long-term horizon as a critical mass of new residents are
established downtown. With this in mind, the RDNP requires that that development on
convertible retail frontage streets be designed in a manner to accommodate an easy conversion to
retail use in the future. The building has been designed to meet this requirement and articulated
with a good rhythm at street level to potentially accommodate several commercial uses ("a fine
grain") with frequent entry points. In addition the location of parking underground is consistent

with policies in the new RDNP that ensure there is no visible parking at grade level

Yeah I read that article, very interesting indeed, and helps explain why that lot has sat vacant for so long! It's amazing what greed will drive people to do, in this case commit arson and fraud..

As for the redevelopment hopefully it occurs. I beleive the guy who owns the chocolate store just down the street would like to expand into a bigger place in this proposed building.

According to the guy painting the outside of the old Roca Jack's on 13th at lunch today, the spot is going to be a coffee and tea place. They have already begun putting up the posts and rails for the City's smallest patio.

Come mid-May, the popular takeout spot that sells healthy fresh rolls and foot-long Vietnamese subs is opening Pho Milu’s next door. Looks like they updated Street View as well so you can cycle between 2009 and 2013 street views. Some spots downtown have three: 2009, May 2013 and July 2013

Pretty cool to see Hill Tower 3 before and after.

Interesting read on the upcoming airport expansion, sounds like construction will start around 2016 and it will be a big project, approx 250 million. There is also mention of the airport authority continuing to pursue charter flights to Europe, which would be great!

The article mentions possible lengthening the runways? Does anyone know the benefits? What is currently difficult/impossible to do with our current runways?

REGINA — Motorists can expect some road closures starting next week with the start of construction season.

Beginning Wednesday, Dewdney Avenue between Albert Street and Lorne Street will be closed for underground work by a private contractor for Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR).

The street is expected to be closed for at least three weeks as workers relocate CPR’s utility services.

Due to the deep excavation involved to reach the infrastructure, the road needs to be closed to traffic while the work is being done to ensure the safety of citizens and construction crews.

You're missing my point. It's not being marketed as such and they're likely going to be filled with offices. It's not really a desirable places for retail, unfortunately.
