It a question of degree in this case.

Setting the railing back one foot would do wonders to alleviate sidewalk congestion
in front of that particular restaurant.

I agree, just like the placement of items in front of Café Crepe on Granville leads to a bottleneck for no good reason. It's the little stuff that sometimes end up making a big difference.

Ah. I see what you're saying. What about the idea of taking out street side parking on major restaurant/shopping streets and making properly wide sidewalks? Encourage parkade use and walking around the city. Maybe leave afew street-side spots, some for people with mobility issues and a few at a higher pay rate for the lazy.

The wide sidewalks on Granville are pretty great as a pedestrian/transit person.

At that spot, what they need to do is move the bike racks about 15 feet to the north away from the Cafe Crepe railing and away from the congested corner. There would be enough sidewalk width if the patio and the bike racks were not fighting for space.

It doesn't help that musicians seem to like that spot next to the Cafe Crepe railing to play at night (attracting a standing crowd that spills onto the roadway).

Some businesses would complain - esp. high end restaurants with valet service.
The former Shore Club, now Keg, eats up 1 of 2 Dunsmuir lanes with its valet service (which I think may still be a no stopping zone).

I think that's more of a crossing the bike path issue, rather than just pedestrian congestion.

Old pic - either 1947 or 1928? Note the Woodward's "W" isn't on the tower.

Hmmm - they're in planters, aren't they? They should be capable of being transplanted.

some updates from this morning. poor lighting unfortunately-

atemisia. now that they're planting some greenery, it softens the look a bit. The front entranceway area (stone?) looks promising.

salt is being painted Yaletown beige

nordstrom

edit; forgot about these two

980 howe

the spandrel on 999 seymour matches exactly with the Tim Horton's (bottom left). what a let down this building is.

Thanks!

But the spandrel at the Tim Horton's is backlit and changes colours...

I need to take a shot of the north side of 999 Seymour. From the office I can see slot windows being installed
- could end up be the more interesting side of the building.ing

I noticed this morning huge signage put on the hoarding for the new Jubilee house. Looks like they're ready to start excavation pretty soon. This is at Helmcken and Richards

Thanks.
The lane side of the building looks pretty instiutional - not very residential - i.e. compared to the neighbouring townhouses.

That proposal has been getting better and better. 40 floors would have been even better for the area, but this is definitely not bad.
