Maybe they could tie in a new community center into the eventual development of the safeway site and in exchange the developer gets the build on the current community center site.

So it looks like Civic 3 will be pinned up against those skytrain tracks.

Yes it will be. Part of the lower building will actually go under the tracks slightly to the sidewalk and looking at the plans (http://www.surrey.ca/bylawsandcouncillibrary/PLR_7911-0334-00.pdf) the project is actually a squashed footprint to will fit in that space you see in the picture.

These show the depth of the pit a bit better:

Why are they taking a year to start this?

They probably want to get a few more sold I'm guessing.

It looks like they are coming back with new 3 bedroom suites in the spring, so even the plans were up for change.

I saw an excavator on site today, not sure how new it is.
The sooner this gets going the better, I think the fourth Plaza 88 tower will block most of my view of 3 Civic Plaza.

My photo from a few days ago, the crane is for Wave, 3 Civic Plaza should be just between it and Plaza 88 on the left.

Putting up walls and fences, guess that means they are either getting close to start construction or they are worried about people falling in the giant hole.

I'm assuming that they will continue excavating some time within the next 2 weeks considering they already have an excavator sitting at the site. For the next week or so they will probably be prepping the site for things like a truck wash station and etc.

Fantastic news! After years of grand announcements Surrey is finally going to have a true skyscraper proposal come to fruition. Luckily it happens to be one of the best we have seen as well.

The library looks fantastic! I've been inside and I like it a lot. The only suggestion that I have for the library is that they should have integrated some sort of computer lab. Or maybe I just didn't find it? Anyways it looks fantastic and I am super excited about Civic Plaza!

Great to hear this project is getting off the ground. Based on current development, can anyone here guesstimate how soon a crane may appear on-site?

Summer? Depends on how quickly they dig. Site isn't that large. My best guess if they have actually started digging is June some point. Conservatively I'll say Summer could be sooner.

I wonder if they'll be shutting down city parkway between 102 and 104th. Also how is that going to impact the local businesses?

If I had to take a guess, I would say maybe alternating traffic at best. I am pretty sure they have the new 103 Avenue extension at the south of that block closed off, so I am sure they would keep that closed instead.

Forget 164m they should just make a supertall here. It's the chance of a lifetime.

By lower mainland standards, this will be a super tall. What particularly excites me is that with the Urban Village, Rize and Bosa developments happening right around 3CP, it will create the effect of a mini urban core in this part of town. And hopefully that will spur the addition of new businesses and services in the area.
