Makid, we are now waiting for information now that it was signed by the governor yesterday.

Not to speak for Makid, but I remember him saying a while back that once the bill is signed and into law we were to expect the CCH development to be on the "fast track" and that we could hear more info a "month or two"
So..........it might be a little awhile before we learn more about any of this.

I think "within a month or two" is wishful thinking. We know how these things go. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we have an official location and a substantial rendering by the end of the year.

Giving that OR is set to stay until 2016, I will be very disappointed if we don't at the very least know where this Hotel will end up and to see some renderings by the end of this year. Really, Salt Lake City and county don't have any more time to screw off with this given that even with a 2017 opening date the city will need to get the OR to stick around for another few years without the hotel online.

As soon as I hear something I will post it.

My dream timeline is the following:

We will hear about some minor things as well as the RFP on the next 2 months.

By the end of OR Summer, we will hear of the chosen location, developer, hotel brand, and site plan. The reason for this timing is that OR has been the driving force. I would also expect Comic Con SLC to have a presence. (At this time, we may also have the ceremonial ground breaking ceremony)

OR Winter `2015, demolition and excavation are well underway (maybe even beginning the underground parking), finalized architectural plans and images are released. Again in another ceremony including OR and Comic Con. Maybe even including some new larger convention dignitaries that have booked SLC for future conventions due to the CCH.

Legislative session 2015, Zion Curtain is brought down again and some other minor changes to the liquor laws.

Steady construction through 2015. Announcement made by October/November that CCH has been booked at 85% room night capacity for first 2 years from completion date.

OR Winter 2016, OR announces extended stay in SLC through 2025. OR Parent company announces moving of 2 additional conventions to SLC to begin in 2018 through 2028.

Top out of CCH Feb to Mar 2016.

April/May 2016, announcement of a new 600-800+ room hotel adjacent to the convention center to be built due to increased demand. Demolition/Excavation/Construction beginning a few months later.

OR Winter 2017, CCH complete, OR week is official opening for CCH with OR Winter being first convention use.

Rest of 2017 - Other area hotels report between -1% to up 5% in hotel bookings and revenue. No money is paid out from the hotel contingency funds.

Has anyone been keeping a tally on the current number of hotel rooms that have recently been added, or are about to be added this year? Seems to me the new room figure is pretty substantial when you consider everything that has been recently completed, or is currently under construction. Granted, the hundred's of new rooms don't completely accomplish what is needed with a specific CCH next to the CC. However, one of the primary complaints has also been that the metro also needs more rooms total for the big conventions, particularly within the Salt Lake Valley itself.

The "Mighty Five Series" of commercials is flooding the major markets now. It's pretty much the same volume of coverage as the "Ski Utah/Park City" commercial blitz. I see first hand evidence constantly that even the geographically challenged understand the novelty of Utah's landscape. I think Utah is in the enviable position of being a victim of it's own success. The problem now isn't in getting the word out, it's about building the infrastructure fast enough to keep pace with the demand. That seems to be happening with population growth, and growth in all commercial/business sectors along the Wasatch Front.

Major Conventions like the OR are saying we prefer to come to Salt lake or stay in Salt Lake. IMO, the OR has every intention of staying, and are anxiously working with SLC in making sure that happens. I'm also convinced that there will be a substantial list of major conventions forwarding advanced bookings over the next year, as rapid progress continues to be unveiled on the CCH development.

I'm sure Makid will back me up on this. I think it's way too premature to be wringing our hands over the speed with which the powers behind the scenes are NOW developing plans for the pending CCH.

Edit: I hadn't gotten to your last post yet Makid. I want to make a note of this page number and your post number. Infact, I think I'll paste it somewhere, because I'm sure you'll be fairly accurate on most of your predictions. It will be cool to refer back to your timeline.

Yeah, love that ideal timeline Makid -- seems optimistic, but still reasonable. Bring it on!

I would actually be surprised if the county hadn't already started to prepare the RFP once the legislature passed the bill. I imagine it is either done or close to done and they were simply waiting for the Governor to sign it, I'm with Makid, I believe we'll see the RFP released very soon. I'd actually guess within a months time though.

This would be sweet if everything rolled like this..

I have no idea who he is. Of the list I've seen, the only person I would be interested in seeing is Amy Pond! (Karen Gillan)

You must not be a Sci-Fi geek. There are a lot of good names there in the Sci-Fi genre.

I never saw Firefly, but I love Fillion from Castle. He is great.

Nope, not really. I like an occasional sci-fi show. Right now, mainly Doctor Who.

Me too. I loved the heck out of David Tennant, but with Matt Smith, the only thing I've liked about him are his companions. He himself....I don't know what it is about him. Too silly? I dunno. Anyway, looking very much forward to Peter Capaldi.

Uhhhh development and planning and architecture and building blah blah blah. *cough*

Speaking of Doctor Who 2 designs have hit the 10,000 vote point on Cuusoo.com for the current review period. I have to say many of us have some form of ADHD because we sure can get off topic from time to time.

To be honest we haven't really had much of any reason to post much the last few days. The best I was able to find was asking about the Fan Experience that I thought at the time was the full thing.

While it's nothing spectacular, and it looks like it belongs in the burbs there are many positives about it. It's not ugly, it's not in the burbs, it brings more jobs and people to downtown, and it occupies a former surface lot.

I don't know, I think I like it. It actually turned out better than I thought it would. I like the stone they used, particularly the look at street level. Also like the window size and configuration at the base. It might have a bit of an 80's vibe, but at least it's an attractive 80's infill, mid-rise vibe. Also, I think it's a good fit for that particular neighborhood and corner. Looking at this, and even more so the upcoming 151, I think Boyer is definitely moving it's design presence in Downtown Salt Lake in the right direction.
