Philadelphia seeks World Heritage designation

Glad to see such positive steps being taken to raise Philly's international profile.

RE: 22nd and Market St. Park

I looked at the rendering in Metro of the park and I am usually not this blunt. - Disgusting design and I would agree with a previous post that the park belongs in one of the many 'hoods in the city. The poor design and split rail fences look like they were part of John Street's NTI lot clearing - weed and seed program. The park should be named "Purgatory Park" because the Angels have definitely not ascended into heaven on this one. When I heard they had a design budget of only $250,000 I knew not to expect much, but this proposal is awful. They had interviewed a grieving woman who lost her daughter and her mind must still be clouded because of her great loss - the woman actually endorsed this design as if it were something great. Cleveland or Akron Ohio could do better than this and it will forever stain Market Street West. I think they should wait till they have $5,000,000 to $10,000,000 for a better design or make it a skate park!!

I don't think that rendering means much, considering that the design competition for the park hasn't begun yet.

Look at the photo titled "Third Street: View from the South." Is part of the old visitor's center going to be preserved to act as an entrance? Odd choice.

Bland, bland, bland. There's absolutely nothing revolutionary about this design.

The bill related to moving Philadelphia police HQ to old Provident building at 46th and Market passed 15-0 in city hall today.

With some modest repairs , the old " round house " would make a great indoor
skate board park .

That makes no sense to me, especially since the building isn't in the center of the city. I was thinking of moving the HQ to either Callowhill or Spring Garden Sts, just so it can be closer to Center City, but this is one of the moves which makes me scratch my head on the city.

Renderings of the new South Street West development. Looks like a mini Granary. All in all it looks fine, but i wish it was one story higher.

That's good news!!! I hope we can get more international carriers like Alitalia, Iberia, Air France, TAP Portugal, Swissair, and maybe some cheap connections to South America and the Caribbean!!!!! I've always felt that having US Airways as the sole carrier for a lot of the international routes wasn't good for travel rates and PHL needs competing service to drop rates down in order to improve service for that airport!!!

Are you kidding? This is a perfect re-purpose project. This will do wonders for the area northwest of University City and bring back to life an old building. Plus an urban failure in a prime spot (the round house) will be torn and something far better will be in its place.

It's a great use of an historic and beautiful building. It will also bring new life to that area around 46th and Market. I view it as a huge win.

Nice. Simple. I love these kinds of buildings. The quality is in the brickwork and other details. It's not some experiment on how much an architect can have going with the design at once. I'd like to see these pop up all over the place.
