YYC/YVR-LAX on AC rouge has been been cut in half for the entire summer season. YYC down from 2 to 1 daily, and YVR down from 4 to 2 daily. Seems weird, anyone know why?

Well I survived routing PHX-SLC-DEN-YYC with the wife and two kids on Saturday.

It was actually quite fun. US Airways A320 to SLC, then Skywest (for United) CR7 to DEN, and finally picking up the United B738 to YYC.

All flights packed. First two legs were almost full capacity, and DEN-YYC had about 4-5 seats empty according to the seat chart.

Also finally saw my first 788 in person, United had one parked by their hangar at DEN.

Since it is not just us but YVR as well could it be a lack of metal?

THis is just AC unloading the AC flights transferring pax to rouge and then uploading the rouge flights onto the GDS.

The problem with unloading AC and uploading rouge is that some computer systems will go into overdrive at snatching up seats that have all ready been loaded. For example if a low level Tango fare has been previously purchased the PNR must be swapped into same fare class, otherwise the fare class gets reopened because the computer system does not have pax attached.

This sometimes results in 1-2 day lag in getting caught up on the switch between AC and rouge. The airliners.net OP ran his analysis during the middle of the switch.

ETA: The AC reservation system shows 2 daily AC 319s for the entire summer. New AC flight numbers are 1874 and 1876.

Why did you fly that? Did it cost negative dollars?

I'm a sucker for punishment...

Actually it was booked on points with my in-laws. We had the AC non-stop flight down but that was the only way we could get back.

I was worried about the two kids (4-1/2 and 21 months) but they both handled it like a champ. I think getting on and off planes helped break up the monotony of the trip. Plus for an avgeek like myself it was nice to get 3 legs on 3 different aircraft.

There were a couple of charity 'race the base' events up at Cold Lake in the past few years, which had standing mile races among Alberta sportscar/supercar owners (including a few held against CF-18s). That would be a cool event

Even better, AC just down gauged AC8=50 to 763 from 333 for the coming winter season. This could be first sign that AC will put 788 onto AC850 at some point during the winter 2014/15 season. Figures crossed.

Also as reported in YEG airport thread, AC898/899 (YEG-LHR) is removed from October forward. I doubt AC would pull down YEG-LHR and down gauge YYC-LHR.

Is the YEG-LHR removal from October forward part of their original plan with the route?

Very promising if this leads to AC 788 service here soon.
