Some additions to Robson:

-Telus is taking over the former LaSenza space @ 1143 Robson
-Rogers is opening across the street beside the New Balance store
-Skeetchers is opening in the former Shifeon on the other side of New Balance

'Robson Landmark' (south-west corner Robson/Thurlow) is also losing Aritzia as they are expanding into the former B2 space next door. Red Robin will not be renewing their lease this year either as the demolition and redevelopment of this site inches closer.

Concord Pacific has given notice to Dollar Tree to vacate their location in the basement of the Carlyle (728 Thurlow) in late spring. The store is actively looking for a replacement store downtown. It's grand opening was June 23, 2012 but Concord needs some (or all) of the space for a luxury retailer connected to the corner space above. This could also enhance the remaining CRUs along Alberni.

Glad to hear the dollar tree is going. Was definitely out of place there.

Edit: Kind of a shame about the Red Robin. I loved that place. Especially the patio.

I hope that means Sketchers will be leaving the mall as they seem out of place there now.

The former Shoe Warehouse on Granville will soon open as a Ronsons, which is closing their PC location.

Too bad about more mobile phone stores on Robson, will more certainly not enhance the gradual decline of the 1100 block, the only bright spots being Sketchers and the recently re-opened Steve Madden. Can't wait for a major re-development of say the Robson Fashion Park ( the Gap building ). That block needs a major visual enhancement and draw and fast, to stem it's decline.

As I believe the employees all have the same contract and to change that patterson would have had to create a new brand. Back in the 90's both safeway and Save on went out on strike at the same time. I believe they were forced into joint bargaining by the arbitrator very similar to trade unions etc. As all the trades are forced to bargain together for there contract.

Who owns the building the lululemon is moving out of. Would it be Aquilini s he now owns CinCin restaurant above. I see new 3 story building with restaurant on top floor and retail bottom in this spot

My local Safeway had over 15-20 salad side dish options... Also made on spot sandwiches and pre cut cheeses of all sorta.

Save on has 7 salad options in sad little green buckets... Some fried chicken and French fries. No cheese options or hand made sandwhices so no to your 90%.

Safeway is superior to Save On IMO in the Bakery and Deli sections. I hope Sobeys doesn't mess things up.

Disappointed to see Red Robins go, I doubt they would find another spot downtown (they didn't even bother getting a new location in Metrotown), but if they did could the former Fog n Suds work?

Is Red Robin looking for another space then? They should have taken the old Moxies 2nd floor location.

Yup - may look good, it it'll do nothing to shelter pedestrians from the rain.

I think it will if it is wide enough. Walking down Howe street at the Law Courts, one gets sheltered from the rain because of the high roof that sticks out.

It almost seems like Red Robin is getting rid of all their "high rent" locations in Vancouver.

They have a newer location in Langley, not sure of the other 'burbs locations but I can't see the closed/closing locations being overly profitable especially when you are comparing to their locations down the I5.

It sometimes amazes me where we are asking rent wise. I was looking for a CRU in Seattle and at one of the most successful shopping centres in Seattle proper it would maybe cap out at $90/foot all in.

Also depends on the direction the wind is blowing. Usually the wind is from the west, so the Law Courts would provide shelter.

Oh noes, Red Robin is my go-to gourmet burger place and the old location was walking distance from my place. This is unfortunate news, indeed.

A Wal-Mart doesn't belong in that neighbourhood. I'm surprised the community didn't protest this move. Wal-Marts are urban cancer.

That's great! They have been a top performer a few times I think.

I wonder if they plan on any expansions. Weren't they thinking of taking over the atmosphere at some point?
