I had no idea AMC pulled out of Utah. I've been to AMC's in downtown San Antonio, New York, and Atlanta, and they have all been really nice. Cinemark is nice too though.

I also agree. I think there is more to the LDS church building 111 than what we have heard. Hopefully it's for the better.

Totally agree. LD$ Inc is taking over downtown. Next thing you know, the Temple will become the state capitol!!

AMC actually just remodeled that theater in Layton. It's now literally the nicest movie theater I've ever been to in my life. All of the seats are leather recliners:

That's what the seats were like in the AMC's I've been to in New York, Atlanta, and San Antonio. They are super comfortable.

I like that idea as well.

How long ago, and where did you hear that Cinemark was looking to establish themselves in DT?

Cool, thanks.

I remember seeing a project rendering for that site about 4 years ago. I think it said Liberty something as well, so I always assumed it was Cowboy Partners. I wonder if it is the same development just finally getting steam again.

I'll see if I can find the rendering I'm talking about. I remember the building was like 6 stories and yellow brick.

This is essentially the site -- it's just through the block where they're building that other tower and parking structure on State. In fact, I wonder how far into the block they're going to go on either side. Anyway. This is about where it's at.

It made it through the senate last year, and was three votes short in the house I believe.

The last time Tower 8 was discussed I came up with another option. It's the same total square footage, but it a taller, sleeker structure. Simply taking the even height from the back two thirds and putting that same height on the front third. I guess it could also be accomplished by having several set back along each front and having the tallest portion be on the north side or in the NE corner.

Going back through the thread, I came across this. Great idea Future Mayor! I especially like the idea in reverse with the tallest portion being on the north side, because it would make the building appear even taller in the skyline because of the hill.

Seriously?

Property Reserve doesn't own the theater, they developing, owning and leasing the tower. They can't control the content of what shows at the PAC any more than Nuemont University can control the content. The land is owned by the city and the facility will be managed by the county arts.

I think Utaaah is exactly right. Hamilton sold there development interest to Property Reserve for one of those two reason. They approached PR or PR approached them, either way they saw it as a way to free up capital for another project. Maybe that project is here, maybe it's not, 111 is still being built and will definitely add to our skyline. Considering the design was changed a long time ago I doubt it had anything to do with PR developing the tower.

Dude, chill out! The LDS church had that lot as part of the initial overall City Creek Center proposal. In 2006, when they presented to the public, they showed a 35-story office tower there. It was what we labeled on this forum as the 'Mystery Glass Tower'. It should be in the front page of this thread, or one of the older ones. Hamilton and the city then joined the picture at a later time. I'm not sure why Hamilton became the developer and then gave it back to the church, but we know that the church had the initial plans to develop there. Too bad, it's not 35 stories, but at least we're getting another high-rise in downtown.

Less then a year ago.. I won't say specifically where I got my info.. But it's inside information and reliable .

They were actually originally set to operate the theater at Gateway.. LHM pulled some tricky shit to steel it... Believe it or not gateway is a pretty substantial in the region... Cinemark is not happy with what took place and wants a peice.

That AMC remodel is pretty nice.. Is that just one auditorium or everything... They probably had to step it up with the Cinemark theater next door... Cinemark also has plans to either remodel or rebuild that location as well.. I wonder if AMC's remodel will Get them moving a bit faster... Last I heard they were debating with Layton Hills Mall ... The mall would like to have the new theater attached to the mall... But the theater does not like that idea because it takes revenue from concessions.

What exactly is the problem with the LDS church constructing an office tower and leasing out space????

They actually have exquisite taste and very high construction standards.. Have you been to City creek center or inside the conference center??? Both facilities have elements that are architecturally breathtaking... Also have you seen the extents that they're going to with the tabernacle in Provo... The LDS church has a quality of construction that most people lack nowadays... You should feel privileged to have them developing here. They can build anything they want as far as I'm concerned.. And I'm saying this is an atheist.

Other than the fact that City Creek center is closed on Sunday... There is nothing to differentiate it from other malls... Well other than how good it looks... Chill out people!!! Jezz

I'd like some proof on this "Tricky shit" by LHM claimed by Cinemark could simply be bad blood that they weren't awarded the contract, and the new guy on the block was. It could also be that Boyer preferred to go with a local company. Please give details on this so called "tricky shit" otherwise you're simply spreading a rumor.

This I agree with 100%. I don't see why a few people are all up in arms about Property Reserve developing 111. Like you said CCC is beautiful, built well with fantastic finishing elements. Some people act like it would be horrible to have the developers of 99 West and The Regent build another tower.
