as for ownership improving the team. we're talking about the canucks, right? not the whitecaps? lol. cause i've got a bigger issue with caps ownership as being cheap. you can't really say that about canucks ownership. they've paid their players quite well. and they've spent to the cap every year for the last at least 3-5 years...
Not to mention ownership invested a ton into other non core/traditional aspects. The Canucks have one of the nicest locker rooms in the league, good office staff. The only problem I have with the Aquilinis is how much they price gouged, especially for season tickets. They overpriced the preseason and non important games (shitty teams)

Same childhood experience, but I gave up all interest after Gretzky was traded by the Oilers. All hockey since then is just minor league.

We have an ownership that overly meddles with team decisions. The fact that they've spent to the cap isn't the concern it's how they've spent to the cap. Everything from making Lou the captain a few years back, to keeping Gillis even with the terrible contracts he continually signs, to the chasing after numerous players of Italian decent... There have been numerous people that have left the organization because they didn't like the way they've seen it run. Of course I'd like to have the ownership stay local, but that doesn't mean I have to support the current team just because ownership is local.

Don't get me started on the Whitecaps, they aren't any better. The Lions, Giants, and C's on the other hand seem to have things together at the organization level.

I was under the impression that the Aquilinis were responsible for many of the dumb contract decisions too. I don't think Gillis wanted to keep Luongo over Schneider.

Count me in as one of the fans who jumped off the bandwagon in 2011. You sort of get sick of the team going through the cycle of the mother of all buildups followed by immense disappointment.

yeah. i get that impression too. aquilini's should just stop doing that. they're not hockey people. they're fans. leave HOCKEY related decisions to the professionals.

it sucks to see the canucks lose the way they have been. but there's still time for them to battle for the 8th seed. the canucks are the main draw in this town, so people are going to pay big bucks to see them. that's why aquilini can continue to ask for the prices that he's been asking. anyways, i dont really care about how much aquilini pays his players. that's up to him. if he wants to spend his money that way, then he that right. i don't go to the games at rogers arena...just watch on tv, at home. i find that's a better experience for me and my family. cheap meal, family time, and if they're doing bad, i can always change the channel

*l* There are... but don't worry there's enough brain dead fans that will support the team regardless, which will ensure it's financial success.

ouch.

i guess that's what it means to support the team, through bad and good times.

it's all the sweeter when you've gone through a stretch where the team wasn't doing well, and then they come through, and the team's doing well for a number of years. we're at the end of an era (sedin era), where these players are on the decline. looking towards the future, though, with the likes of shinkurak, horvat, gaunce, jensen, kass, etc., that's an exciting crop of players if you ask me.

That is a terrible foundation for the next rebuild. I'd really like to know how Ron Delorme has survived several regime changes with the Canucks' abysmal drafting and development record.

Support the team if you like but it's gonna be like the Oilers or the Flames' last decade, depending on what Aquilini forces Gillis to do.

If a team makes bad decisions it needs to be called out for it. Being a fan does not mean following the team regardless of the actions of the team. If the team were to double or triple the price of tickets to line the owners pockets should we still support the team? The Canucks have made several bad decisions recently, like even lying about their sell out streak which was really broken about 18months ago, it's been obvious to anyone at the games. Glad the NHL is now looking into that. The fact the team is need of a rebuild isn't why I can't currently support them.

Being a fan of the Canucks is about having an emotional attachment to the team. Most fans can separate their dislike of a particular owner and the players on the team. They're 2 different things.

For the record, the Canucks are still one of the best organizations in the league. The Canucks have made the play-offs 10 out of the last 12 seasons, come 1st in their division 7 times out of those seasons, and won the presidents trophy twice. No team is great every year.

Looks like one of the best organizations in the league keeps running into trouble. They now have the 3rd key player in as many years demand out. Also reports coming out that the heritage classic is having major issues selling tickets at the current prices. Even after thousands of give aways they still have thousands available for sale. One ticket broker reporting that he's getting 9 offers to sell him tickets for every 1 offer to buy tickets.

It's hard to rebuild a team when there are serious issues on the rooster and in the front office. Wish them all the luck though.

When the ticket prices were first released I looked into it and the comparable area where my seats are at Rogers Arena was being listed as $219 per ticket. As a half season ticket holder I pay $95 a seat at Rogers (Balcony row 4 behind Canucks bench). No way would I pay more than double to be further away. It is no surprise that it is not sold out. I hope the league takes it hard for this. They had the chance to make it affordable and blew it. They could have made it affordable to the masses who can't get tickets. The season ticket holders were given a presale time to buy tickets for this game, but it was not included in the regular ticket package since it is operated by the NHL.

The prices are ridiculous. I thought one of the aims was to have a game in large venue so that all of the families etc. that cant afford to go to a regular game could go to something like this. I could understand if the best seats were pricey, but really, 60% or more of the tickets should be under $100.
