I see the successful parkade on site as part of the problem. It likely generates enough revenue to make holding the site "as-is" cost neutral on Brookfield's books. Why would they take any additional risk when they can just wait for another boom.

Difference is, with The Bow we have been effectively screwed out of the reconstruction of a historic building. Whereas with Brookfield, worst case scenario is the parkade that is already there stays a long time. Not nearly as much downside.

Musings because I've got too much time on my hand.

As incredible as this sculpture is in the above image in practice it would a bad idea.
1 - it would draw a crowd - a very bad idea at the top of escalators - I've frequently witnessed a collapsing house of cards on escalators - very dangerous.

2 - Arachnophobia - I didn't realize how many suffer from it. There would be employees unable to go to work.

I guessing it's just a placeholder for future potential works of art. The sculpture is an existing series called "Maman". There is an edition at the NGC in Ottawa.

Lol good point, that thing would be creepy for a regular person, and damn near paralyzing for someone with a fear of spiders!

I've seen that sculpture in Ottawa. Also I'm arachnophobic. Still awesome in person.

Would be a heck of a lot sweeter if it was the mama alien from Aliens. (I think Paul Allen owns that now...)

Well, I may not be normal and I certainly don't claim to understand arachnophobia but to me that sculpture is awesome!

While the comment about location may be valid (though I think the angle of the picture makes it seem like it is closer to the escalators than it actually is), the comments of arachnophobia have never panned out in Ottawa, and in fact the sculpture there is extremely popular.

Calgary tower will be a good vantage point to watch Brookfield Place and Telus Sky go up:
