I think nearly all the debris from that fire (I don't know of any big fire in 1873) was used to fill the stagnant lagoon that had been created by the Illinois Central's causeway. So that would be entirely south of Randolph. Map here. And here's an 1872 map that's especially trustworthy because it was done by Corps of Engineers actual survey.

Thx for the map - not sure about the other areas but when they were digging the hole for the spire the smell of burnt wood was very strong. The boxcars and warehouses - and weeds - in what is now LSE were particularly surreal after a high speed drive in from the airport and dangerously fast drive down the spooky green of lower Wacker.

On the brown line about a week or so back I saw a cement mixer truck in motion at the site around 9PM. I was surprised that work was going on with it being so cold.

CMH Redevelopment...

Finalized PD Documents viewable Here

The 2 high-rises are Building A1 and Building A2. No definable address just yet, as they are set into the block and not specifically listed in the documents.

Each contain 270 units, 20 stories, 214'-0". There is no parking within the tower footprints. 2 floors of parking is carved under the 7 story condo building as well as the existing Nellie Black Building (97 spaces each). The remaining 850 spaces are in the existing multi-level garage on Lincoln.

Thanks for posting, Shawn.

Anyone know why they would specifically annotate the facade of the flatiron building between Fullerton/Lincoln as being clad in GFRC? The similar building between Lincoln/Halsted is not marked as anything, which I presume to mean that they are restoring the existing facade material (glazed terra cotta, I presume).

Often GFRC is used to replace missing or broken terracotta elements. It's much lighter so it doesn't require structural reinforcements.

I don't understand: are they completely rebuilding the 7 story building at the northeast corner of Fullerton and Orchard with the same facade? The building's main floor is raised almost a full floor above street level with grand stairs leading to its entrances but it every rendering and elevation it is shown sitting at grade.

CMH redevelopment in Lincoln Park passed the plan commission with a unanimous vote this evening.

There was a hell of a lot of whiny NIMBY's what left disappointed and pretty much stated they wouldn't vote for Ald. Smith again.

^ Well that came out of nowhere. Can we declare the century's second boom officially off to a start?

I regard anything west of LaSalle above 30 stories as a pretty big deal - this is jumping a small psychological barrier and beginning to truly colonize western/central River North.

Nice design.

We need more proposals like this for River North/Streeterville--our nascent midtown Manhattan

That big U-shaped surface lot that surrounds English on three sides needed to go. I'm curious about what else is being propsed besides the tower (on the south and west sides of the 'U').

Thanks for sharing. It's great to see something planned for this stretch of LaSalle. The base looks very promising. Plenty of transparency at street level.

It seems like this proposal is for that entire u shaped lot… The red brick looking low rise is, im guessing, a well disguised parking structure/amenity deck.

I wouldn't mind seeing an angle from the south, looking down kinzie.
