^ A good part of that is based on currency controls. Money from debt payments can't leave the island, so will chase the best investment available. Money is seeking any hard assets. Icelandair is buying airplanes, that will be worth the same in euros before and after any new currency shift.

A smart strategy for investors in a bad situation. An example of a model to follow? No. Shifting monetary assets into durable goods is a sign of a crisis.

Interesting perspective ... Traded on NASDAQ as FI Group is. I wonder what the ratio is of Icelandic investors is to those off the "island".

Interesting UAL schedule adjustment on Sundays in Spring (starting March) UAL has 3 flights on Sundays to Chicago. Haven't seen that increased before.

We went to the Bugs Bunny with the ESO show yesterday at the Winspear. Air Canada sponsors it and they had a draw for 4 free flights anywhere in North America or the Caribbean.
I would assume they will be happy to award you the prize with a free connector to a hub as we do not have any flights outside the country from YEG.

I was thinking the same thing when they announced it at the beginning of the performance.

I guess it was apropos that AC sponsor a program about a cartoon.

While I certainly appreciate AC sponsoring the ESO it would be nice if they put a little more effort into YEG.

Like a few more flights perhaps.

Interesting info, thanks for the links.

The more I read about FI, their services and the success in the Edmonton market, the more I am convinced that YEG transat services have a sweet spot with AC rouge. Premium ruge is about the same at FI Saga class, and both airlines operate on back cabin basis.

The mind jam in the LHR-YEG in AC rouge is the general consensus that outlying stations must be brand specfiic, the out station should either be rouge or mainline.

However I think YEG-LHR on AC rouge would offer a good place to expirement with combination offering. YYC-LHR would remain mainline to capture the traffic paying for a true J cabin and mainline offering. Under this scenario YEG-LHR on rouge would funnel the junk traffic paying cheap airfares from yyc and yvr.

If YEG-LHR worked, then I see no reason why YEG-FRA would not b the sme logical step. The litmus tet on both potential cities is the routes do not cannablize exist mainline yields.

Rouge will not happen in YEG for a while.

Plus, YEG isn't only about the holiday traveller.

I will be in your city at some point in the next two weeks for three days with a very strong possibility of Edmonton becoming my new home. Looking forward to exploring a new city. It will be my first time in 16 years living outside of Ontario.

FI offer considerably more seats in comfort class as a % of total seats and pitch and width offer better passenger comfort over all. I must say I had a chuckle when I noticed AC list "actual width" and "width with the armrests (outer width) useful information if your girth is large enough you have to sit ON the armrests because you can't get tour tush ON the actual seat...

There are other benefits in choosing FI - at the top of these for "extended" families is no charge for a 2nd checked bag and likelihood of fast flights to YEG from Europe from the Euro cities that FI serve that are HUBS. Example: FRA, LHR, AMS, CDG. If arriving from India or anywhere in Arica for example into any of these HUBS on other than a legacy carrier - flying FI to YEG will be faster, more comfortable and less costly than using Air Canada.

First Air has flights up to Mary River Iron mine on Baffin.However most seem to be heading up from YUL but I have seen some from YOW as well.

Angico Eagle Gold Mine in the Rankin Inlet region of Hudson Bay I believe uses Calm Air Out of Winnipeg but Scheduled flights.
Canadian North are using the north hold room for the Diavik mine flights, I am kind of surprised since they have their own FBO.

Not the same amount, I can assure you. Incidentally, North Caribou is getting a former HydQuebec Q400. This would've been one of the first Q400's I got to control in the early 2000's. They'd just gotten them and were replacing -200's and perhaps a Convair 580 or two at the time. Long time ago now.

I seam to recall First Air running a Convair on Baffin.
