My hope is that they restore the Grand Hotel to the original Richelieu Hotel. The possibilities with that would be awesome.

Demolition began today on the 15-year-old jumbotron at Commonwealth Stadium, home of the Edmonton Eskimos.

A new $5.3-million jumbrotron and sound system were approved by City Council in July 2013 and will be installed before the Green and Gold kick off the 2014 season on June 13 in a pre-season matchup with the BC Lions (Click here for the full 2014 schedule).

“This is another great example of the on-going collaboration between the Eskimos and the City of Edmonton. The city’s commitment to the stadium’s infrastructure shows their continued dedication to have Commonwealth Stadium remain a premiere venue in the country,” says Eskimos President and CEO Len Rhodes.

The original jumbrotron and sound system were installed in 1999 and replacement parts are no longer available. The new system combined with the LED sideline boards, installed by the Eskimos last season, will add to the game-day experience that cannot be missed.

So, I have only been living out east since October, but I feel like I am constantly defending Edmonton

. Every time I tell someone where I am from I get this annoying look of , "I'm sorry". Makes me want to punch them in the face, lol. I know that torontonians have a mindset that there home is the centre of the universe, so I shouldn't be too offended...but it makes me think an ad campaign directed more towards Edmonton rather than mountains and wildlife would definitely be beneficial for our image.

The only other thing that may help as well is dealing with the high cost of flight in Canada. When you can get to anywhere in the states, Central America, and the Caribbean for the same price or less than it is to get to western Canada, it definitely makes tourism in our own country a tough sell.

Anyways, point is, I'm definitely a travelling sales man for Edmonton. Doing my best lol

^^The sense I get is others in the country know something is happening in Edmonton, they just don't really know what. We haven't been very good at articulating what that 'something' is yet. Maybe it's yet to be determined. I would call it 'energy' or 'opportunity' or 'growth' or something.
