While the city draws up the next interchange at Highway 11 and Victor Road in Stonebridge, exactly how it will look and how soon it can be built still hangs in the balance.

“The Stonebridge neighbourhood has paid for a good portion of this as well we’ve collected interchange levies from other developments but we haven’t collected any funding from the undeveloped lands,” city manager Murray Totland said Monday.

“Only so many dollars have been collected for this and the amount of funding that’s available today only pays for the first phase, we don’t have the cash for the second phase.”

Phase one calls for two ramps at the interchange; the first ramp giving drivers heading southbound on Highway 11 a right-hand turn access into Stonebridge through Victor Road. The second ramp would give Stonebridge residents a left-turn access out of the neighbourhood and only northbound access on Highway 11.

This part of the project, as Totland said, is already funded. The other two ramps are not. Speaking at a meeting of the administration and finance committee Monday at city hall, Ward Councillor Mairin Loewen and others suggested ramp three is just as important as ramps one and two. Ramp three would provide a connection going southbound on Highway 11 from Victor Road.

This is fantastic news! Also the interchange at Hwy 16 and Rosewood said it was suppose to happen at 50% build-out... getting close from the looks of things! Can't wait to see the plans!

Momentum in Martensville

Over the next 3 days, we are taking a look at the impact Martensville's sudden growth and the impact it has, and will continue to have, on the community. Today (Wed), we look at the introduction of a new City Hall.

Martensville administration are packing up and moving over to 37 Centennial Drive, for the debut of the new facility.

Mayor Kent Muench says construction began on the facility in the spring of 2013 after budget deliberations.

Muench adds it's a much needed upgrade from their old City Hall, which was too small for the expanding city, forcing city departments to be located in two other facilities.

Martensville continues to be province's boom town

It's the second-fastest growing city in the country according to census statistics and between a new city hall, housing construction and two major commercial developments, Martensville is expanding at all corners.

The city has a population of around 8,000 and with the number of residents projected to top the 10,000 mark by next year Martensville is attracting a lot of attention from developers

“I think we're sort of underserviced in terms of commercial so people are picking up on that and you're seeing a lot of development,” said Mayor Kent Muench. “We've hit that critical mass where Martensville is a great place to do business and we're seeing that investment.”

Two major retail developments spanning nearly 100 acres are almost at capacity, a Canadian Tire location is coming to the city and a four-storey hotel is under construction.

Can't wait for the two to grow together! Also I don't think it'll be long before a tax based shared between Saskatoon, Martensville and Warman is established. Essentially like Edmonton Sherwood Park and St Albert.

Give it time. I think once summer hits there will be a lot of major announcements about Warman's mall development. Martensville argurably has more recognition now, but it can't really compete with a development right next to a highway.

(I'm still waiting for Sobeys to build in Martensville. Heard Melville is the priority at the moment, then Martensville next year)

I hope that Warman and Martensville are planning for their inevitable merger. If you look at them on the satellite map, they're practically within spitting distance of each other.

Yup and with Martensville moving east and Warman starting to expand SW I can see this happening sooner then most might think. Also with likely some infill of commercial and industrial in between.

Yup that looks about right. The only thing that looks odd to me on that map, is that Martensville's Main Street ends as a proposed intersection to hwy 11 instead of curving south to meet the proposed interchange.

I know this is a long term plan but would be nice to see that end up happening.
