Yes that is quite true. As you won't have to divert traffic and build as many detours. My pricing for these interchanges in based on cost estimates gathered from Alberta projects of similar scope. I know there is a premium here in terms of more tax and other variables so I have increased based on that. But still quite an expensive undertaking.

And as south bridge project proved weather is always unpredictable. So when this project gets underway they should say something like. We intend to finish in 5 years (weather permitting) Instead of WILL BE OPEN at the end of 20XX.

I hope we see something soon, because this needs to happen before we can really get cooking and start fixing city infrastructure properly.

That is going to be one massive undertaking! I really like your vision, but regardless of what form it ultimately takes it will be interesting to see how it changes our surrounding towns. For example, it would make Aberdeen nearly as accessable as Osler. Could eas ily see a spike in the population of that bedroom community.

A much much smaller project taking place right now is well underway at the co-op marketplace on 33rd. The strip mall was demolished to make way for a new, and much larger gas bar. Then, I believe they will be building a brand new grocery store with the idea of capitalizing on being the closest supermarket to the Hampton Village.

*They actually won't be building a carwash at this spot as they say it is too close to the Ave C one.

Yes it really will change the regional dynamic. Plus the 4-lane projects the province has talked about to Clavet and Delisle.

Also yes I did notice that they had demolished the old building there a few months back. That will be great for that area of 33rd! Bring some vibrancy back to the area.

As well the new hotel on 8th street (across from Indigo) is just starting to come out of the ground! I will see if I can get some shots and post them here soon!

An online petition has started circling in Saskatoon to maintain support behind the North Commuter Parkway Project.

The new North Bridge petition was started by Ward 10 Councillor Zach Jeffries.

"I heard time and time and time again that this was a top priority for folks in this area... and now I'm letting them make their voices heard loud and clear via this petition," Jeffries said on the Brent Loucks Show.

Jeffries explained that one goal of the web site is to provide project updates and information about the project's progress. The other is to show the community support to possible funding partners.

"It's about letting all of the funding partners whether its the province, the federal government, or even other folks around the city council table know the same groundswell support that I'm seeing in my neighbourhood around this project," he said.

I hear the tender for the Westview Co-op in coming in March. Looks like the fuel tanks are going in the ground for the Gas Station there right now.

I love the discussions and ideas on this forum. Even though I don't post often, it is part of my daily reading. I'm thinking about organizing a get together in the next couple of months for SSP folks over a beer. I'm sure the conversation would be awesome and I always like chatting with smart folks to listen to your ideas on municipal issues.

If I put something together for an evening in early March, would you come? If at least a few would make it out, I'll make the arrangements!

Highway 11 interchange coming for Stonebridge

City officials debate priority ramps, councillors push to add a third ramp into phase one construction

While the city draws up the next interchange at Highway 11 and Victor Road in Stonebridge, exactly how it will look and how soon it can be built still hangs in the balance.

“The Stonebridge neighbourhood has paid for a good portion of this as well we’ve collected interchange levies from other developments but we haven’t collected any funding from the undeveloped lands,” city manager Murray Totland said Monday.

“Only so many dollars have been collected for this and the amount of funding that’s available today only pays for the first phase, we don’t have the cash for the second phase.”

Phase one calls for two ramps at the interchange; the first ramp giving drivers heading southbound on Highway 11 a right-hand turn access into Stonebridge through Victor Road. The second ramp would give Stonebridge residents a left-turn access out of the neighbourhood and only northbound access on Highway 11.

This part of the project, as Totland said, is already funded. The other two ramps are not. Speaking at a meeting of the administration and finance committee Monday at city hall, Ward Councillor Mairin Loewen and others suggested ramp three is just as important as ramps one and two. Ramp three would provide a connection going southbound on Highway 11 from Victor Road.
