i would agree with you if the area remains a live/play district. however, with businesses and offices locating in ponce city market, you might see the ponce corridor becoming a job center in the future. bear in mind, i'm not talking about today; i'm talking about 20-30 years out. i think people are really going to be surprised at the size of atlanta 30 years from now.
if we're talking about *today*, there are only a couple of corridors i think really need heavy rail ITP. those are west midtown and the clifton corridor, and possibly to the international terminal and hapeville.
30 years from now is a different story.
i suspect 30 years from now there will be demand for a second subway line under peachtree and through buckhead hitting the buckhead triangle.
30 years from now we're going to be talking about light rail to lakewood, down 166 to greenbriar, along buford highway, and along stewart avenue (metropolitan). this sounds extreme now, but i'll bet you a year's salary these are the conversations we're going to be having then.
i think it's important that our transit discussions start becoming proactive rather than reactive. this is how we've planned roads for years, and we need to start thinking about transit in the same sort of way.
of course, due to lack of funding, we're a good 20 years behind where we need to be on the transit front, so we need to prioritize. but i don't think it's a bad idea to start thinking to the future when we talk about transit.
