^Hear Hear!
I like the optimism and expect good things in 2014. Hopefully Cargo will get a nice boost too with more carriers coming to town.
I look forward to seeing what this new public rwy day will all be about..

Going to be a bit of a gate crunch this summer, the swing gates will be prime real estate.

Once again going to pose a question for a few people here to get some feedback. Going to Austin for a conference in June, so I'm wondering what would be everyone's preference on routing since there are no direct flights from YYC.

AA through DFW (with only a hour layover)
AC/UA through SFO, DEN or IAH (leaning towards DEN w/ 2 hour layover, SFO is 3+ hours and IAH is only 45m)
DL through SLC (with 3.5+ hour layover)

WS doesn't even make the shortlist, cheapest routing using them is a good $200 more.

Equipment wise AA would be probably the only time I'll ever get a leg in an MD-80. UA/AC is a CRJ through DEN, which might be a bit cramped but roughly equal length legs. Through IAH its A320/737 and SFO is CRJ700 for both. DL is also CRJ700/900's.

YYC-DEN-AUS would be my first pick, followed closely by YYC-DFW-AUS. Either is fine.

I would be very reluctant to do that unless both flights were either mainline or regional. Making connections in Denver from the mainline gates to the regional gates is never fun and the Skywest guys are pretty aggressive about closing the door early.

Always choose the Mad Dog option, AA to DFW.

^Somehow I knew that would be Bigtime's pick. Though the insides of the Crj7's are spartan, and the stage lengths would be longest, I'd pick YYC-SFO-AUS simply 'cause SFO's my favorite "Um-arrickin" airport.

So question for the uber-avgeeks.

Air Canada 43 to OGG today, any way to find out if it is the usual "Hawaii run" ones with the old interior, or do those passengers luck out today and get an XM'd one?

The old interior 763s were transferred to Rouge for the summer 2013 schedule. For this year all 763 HI services are using the XM interior mainline configuration. This will be the last season for mainline 763 service.

My preferences would be in the following order:
(1) UA through IAH. Maximizes time spent on mainline aircraft. There is potential for recovery option on UA through DEN if something happens to your IAH flight. Upgrade to Economy plus on the YYC-IAH portion is very reasonable. There are multiple options per day (four flights to IAH and they all connect to an AUS flight.

(2) UA through DEN. Mainline option on the 8:30am flight. Similar advantages to the IAH option listed above. Major downside is the DEN-AUS flight is near equal time on the CR7 regional jet, comfort wise mainline is better.

(3) AA through DFW. Mainline option on the morning flight. Avgeek wise might be last cance on mad dog, however comfort wise the mad dogs are worse than 738 (no chance of IFE or economy comfort). Chances are the mad dogs will get swapped for 738 or 319 for summer schedule. Major downside is lack of recovery options should your YYC-DFW flight get cancelled of delayed.

(4) DL through SLC is a option if you like regional jets or want to fly DL.

I would completely discount UA through SFO. I too like SFO airport but this hub is one of UAs higher IRROP probability, right up there with ORD. Actually there is also an ORD option but its longer, costs more, with fewer recovery options.

WRT connection possibilities, all of DEN, IAH, SLC, and DFW will feature long walks (better bring your comfy running shoes. DENs terminal is huge but at least you wont have to waste time going for walk-train-walk option and you will not have reclear security. DFW with AA is a mess across three terminals, which will require a train option. IAH as well has UA option spread across three terminals. UA express is in separate terminal from UA mainline.

I would say it will be fin 646, flying NRT-YYC-OGG... landing here in a bit.

I was thinking the OGG flight would time well to be operated by the NRT bird inbound.

Thanks for all the info, so happy to have the XM with the two kids.

Lol, I never said my choice had any rhyme or reason to it. Though, chances are it wouldn't require a terminal change or loads of walking. IAH is the most practical option i.e. if I'm traveling with the wife and 4 kids, but without them, SFO all the way.

We have a GDP program to SFO nearly every weekday from YYC. Take that for what it is.

Yeah I've been to SFO only once, calm wind and clear skies but it took forever getting both in and out due to volume. Quite the traffic jam on the ramp.

Meh, sounds like an ATC problem to me. Besides, who cares about those guys? We all know it's really the pilots who are in charge.

My job would be so good if it wasn't for the pilots!

I would choose UA through IAH first and AA through DFW second. In both cases your transfer will be a walk from gate to gate with little time waiting around.

My advice is minimize leg length on regionals, and get to southern hubs in the winter to minimize chance of weather delay.
